'I didn't want to!' - Vinicius Junior reveals how Carlo Ancelotti helped him 'evolve' in just one year - against the Real Madrid star's will

Vinicius, 23, has revealed he "didn't want to" change positions from his usual role on the wing but has thanked Ancelotti for evolving him throughout the 2023-24 season. The Brazil international usually operated on the left wing but played in a more central role on 32 different occasions as Los Blancos won La Liga.

“He convinced me to change position, I didn't want to," the Real Madrid star said regarding the shift to a more central role under Ancelotti. "He has taught me to play on the inside as well. In one year I have evolved more than in everything before.”

Across his 22 starts in the top flight of Spanish football, Vinicius scored 15 goals and added five assists. He has also played a major role in his side reaching the Champions League final, with nine-goal involvements in his nine starts in the competition.

The forward will be preparing for the final against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, June 1 before he then takes some well-needed time off ahead of the Copa America with Brazil this summer. Vinicius scored the winning goal against Liverpool in the 2021-22 Champions League final and will be hoping he can replicate this showing against Dortmund.
