    During an appearance on Uruguayan TV, an interviewer asked Bentancur for Son's Tottenham Hotspur shirt, to which the midfielder replied he should take the jersey from the South Korean star's cousin as "they all look the same".

    The racial comment naturally drew criticism on social media which led to the 26-year-old issuing a public apology to his Spurs teammate. He took to social media to share a message addressing Son where he expressed his regret over his joke which was in poor taste.

    The former Juventus player uploaded a story on Instagram where he wrote: "Sony brother! I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke! You know what I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else! I love you, brother!"
