  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Shrewd recruitment has allowed the Red Dragons to enjoy back-to-back promotions, with considerable value for money being found in the likes of Paul Mullin, Elliot Lee and Andy Cannon. After stepping up into League One, more funds were always going to be required in 2024.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reynolds and McElhenney dipped back into their pockets, with Phil Parkinson getting all of the support that he requires. Wrexham broke their transfer record when snapping up Ollie Rathbone from Rotherham, while fees were also paid for Lewis Brunt, Sebastian Revan, Dan Scarr and Modou Faal. Arthur Okonkwo, George Dobson and Callum Burton arrived at SToK Racecourse as free agents.

  • WHAT MACANTHONY SAID

Darragh MacAnthony – chairman of rivals Peterborough United – has revealed how much Wrexham splashed out, telling talkSPORT of business in the third tier: “Peterborough are the second biggest spenders in League One this summer, I think we spent over £2.1m on transfer fees, and I think obviously Birmingham spent millions more. But after that, I was speaking to the Wrexham CEO [Michael Williamson] on Saturday, I think he said they spent about £1.4m, so I think they are third. But after that we look at the mass majority of deals, it’s free signings, it’s loan deals. Yes, there’s been a bit of business in the Championship, but League One, League Two, there hasn’t been a massive outlay in transfer fees.”

    WHAT NEXT?

Wrexham appear to have invested wisely once again, with 10 points being picked up in their opening four games of the 2024-25 campaign. Only goal difference is keeping them off the top of the table heading into a cross-border derby date with Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
