    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Elliott, who got the assist for Nunez's second, says he did his best to ensure the Uruguayan avoided making things worse as he risked being sent off following his heroics. Despite Elliott's attempts, Nunez was lucky to avoid a second booking for a late challenge on Nathan Collins.

  • WHAT ELLIOTT SAID

He told Liverpool's website: "I just thought, I already knew he was going to get a yellow card for taking his shirt off so I didn’t want him to do anything else and get a red card because we needed him! But it’s just raw emotion, especially in front of the away supporters as well. There’s no better feeling than scoring goals and winning games and just to celebrate in front of our fans is just a moment you can’t really describe."

    WHAT NEXT FOR NUNEZ?

Nunez has come in for criticism for his wasteful displays for the Reds and his future at the club has been called into question. He admitted after the game that he has been going through "a rough patch" and will hope to add to his record when Arne Slot's men face Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday.
