Norwich City striker Hwang Ui-jo suspended by South Korea amid claims he illegally filmed sexual encounter with ex-partner

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The forward has been suspended by his national team, pending a police inquiry into the claims. Per the BBC, It is alleged that Hwang used his phone to record a sexual encounter with his former girlfriend and then posted the video on social media. On loan from Nottingham Forest, Hwang played and scored for Norwich in last night's defeat by Watford in the Championship. The Canaries are aware of the allegations.

  • WHAT SOUTH KOREA SAID

    On the decision to suspend Hwang, the Korea Football Association said: "We have decided not to select Hwang Ui-jo for the national team until a clear conclusion is reached on the facts," the committee said in a statement afterwards." South Korea's manager, Jurgen Klinsmann added: "I fully understand the current situation and will respect the decision of the Korea Football Association."

    South Korea are set to participate in the Asia Cup and begin their campaign on January 15 against Bahrain. Pending the outcome of the police inquiry, Hwang will remain suspended by Korea and Norwich have said they will monitor developments. In the UK, voyeurism is considered a criminal offence whereby it is against the law to film a partner during sex without their consent.

    Norwich will face Bristol City this weekend and currently sit 14th in the Championship. The Canaries will be hoping for a victory to try and push for an unlikely spot in the play-offs. It remains to be seen if Hwang will be involved.
