Marcus Rashford told he's developed 'bad habits' at Man Utd as Roy Keane urges misfiring forward's team-mates to confront him over 'frustrating' style of play

The England international was in the form of his lifein the 2022-23 season, scoring 30 times in all competitions, but he has suffered a dramatic fall from grace this term. Rashford has just three goals to his name and although he did set up Diogo Dalot for United's opener in their 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Monday, he was a shadow of his former self in front of goal, which led Keane to unleash scathing criticism of the 26-year-old.

Speaking on ITV Sport after the Wigan victory, Keane said: "I just wanted a bit more [today]. I have high expectations of Rashford - I always want a bit more. He's played a game here, getting shots away. He's got I think one or two bad habits, where he's stopping the ball and trying the flicks at the wrong time. I don't think he runs in behind enough. I think we were getting frustrated watching him, I think United fans were frustrated watching him.

"United were playing against a League One side here, and I think Marcus must walk off the pitch thinking, 'For all these opportunities, I should be scoring, or certainly providing more assists'. That might sound a bit harsh, but that's because we expect a lot from him."

Keane was disappointed with Rashford's body language against Wigan and the United legend also lashed at him for his technique, which is making him an easy opponent for defenders.

"It's just these little details. He's gone into the habit as well of stopping the ball dead, which makes it easier to defend," he said.

"Listen, one or two shots can go wide, don't get me wrong. Just overall - yeah, we're quick to criticise body language, but there were parts of his game tonight that just frustrated me, and I hope they frustrated his teammates as well, and they should be saying, 'Listen, we expect more from you'."

Rashford did find the net against Nottingham Forest during United's last Premier League outing, but it was not enough as the Red Devils succumbed to a shock 2-1 loss at City Ground. The England international has also only managed to record two assists in the top flight so far this season.

Rashford has been under the spotlight for his lack of work-rate, and Keane was the latest to slam him for his miserable attitude on the pitch. With a crucial fixture against Tottenham lined up next in the Premier League on Sunday, Rashford will hope to get back his shooting boots as quickly as possible.
