Luis Enrique and Sarina Wiegman collect Coach of the Year awards at Ballon d'Or ceremony after leading PSG & England to major silverware in 2025

  • The path to glory for Enrique and Wiegman

Enrique and Wiegman savoured seasons to remember after the PSG boss landed an historic treble, including the first European Cup for a French side since Marseille won it back in 1993. Wiegman helped the Lionesses to defend the European crown they famously landed at Wembley in 2022.

How they both became record breakers

Enrique achieved the remarkable Treble with a European club for the second time in his career, previously doing so with Barcelona in the 2014-15 season. He joins Pep Guardiola, who has also done this twice. And Wiegman became the first manager in either the men's or women's game to lead a team to five consecutive major international tournament finals: two with Netherlands, three with England.

  • Breaking new ground for club and country

By successfully defending the European title, Wiegman became the first manager of a senior England team to win two major tournaments and the first to defend a major crown. And Enrique broke a major record by guiding PSG to 39 consecutive away games without defeat.

    What Wiegman and Enrique said

Wiegman said at the awards: "What an honour. A very special summer, an insane tournament in Switzerland. I want to thank the players, staff, FA and my family for my unconditional support. The women’s game has grown and we’ve broken records. With that growth comes responsibility. We have to keep our identity. Be authentic, be inclusive. We have to fight against misogyny, against racism. Let’s keep uniting and enjoy our beautiful game and if Burna Boy’s around, maybe a bit of dancing too.

And Enrique said, via video: "Thank you to my family, thank you to PSG. I also want to thank two special people: Nasser Al-Khelaifi (PSG chairman) and Luís Campos (PSG sporting director). We have a special relationship. A message to my players who are there: it’s nice to win individual awards but I think the most important thing is the recognition of the fans."
