Harry Kane sends special message to Lionesses after Sarina Wiegman's side reach second successive European Championship final in dramatic style

England men's team captain Harry Kane sent out a special message for the women's side as they reached their second consecutive European Championship final after dramatically beating Italy in the last-four stage. The Lionesses came from behind to take the match to extra-time where Chloe Kelly scored a last-gasp goal to book their spot in the final.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Italy took the lead just past the half-hour mark as Barbara Bonansea broke the deadlock, but Michelle Agyemang's 96th-minute equaliser dragged the match to extra time. Kelly then scored a dramatic last-minute winner to help her side reach their second consecutive European Championship final.

    As Sarina Wiegman's girls are now just one match away from successfully defending their title, England men's skipper Kane shared a message for the women's side. On his Instagram story, the Bayern Munich star wrote: "Congratulations @Lionesses!! One to go!"

    With the win in Geneva, Lionesses boss Weigman created history as she became the first-ever manager in men's or women's football to reach five successive major finals. The Dutch tactician helped the Netherlands reach the finals of the 2017 Women's Euro and the 2019 Women's World Cup. The 55-year-old then guided England to the 2022 Euro and 2023 Women's World Cup finals.
