Explained: ‘Last chance’ for Amad Diallo to earn Man Utd future after seeing injury prevent permanent summer transfer being agreed

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils were ready to part with the Ivorian winger during the summer transfer window of 2023. After seeing him impress on loan at Sunderland last season, another switch was being lined up.

That could have been a loan or a permanent sale, with Amad facing fierce competition for places in the attacking department at Old Trafford. But the struggles endured by Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho this season are helping to keep the 21-year-old forward in Erik ten Hag’s thoughts.

He has, however, only recently recovered from a serious knee injury picked up during pre-season. That knock may end up working in his favour, as it prevented a move away from Manchester being made. Amad is now said to be entering the last chance saloon.

Amad may get the opportunity to impress for Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations – while pushing for minutes prior to that tournament in the busy festive period – and a positive showing there will see Ten Hag offer him another chance to prove his worth at club level.
