    WHAT HAPPENED?

Ashworth was removed from United's sporting director role by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group just five months after being brought in from Newcastle United in the summer. After his appointment, the executive was in charge of the club's football performance, transfers, and operations and was heavily involved in their summer recruitment, but his reign lasted less than six months. Ashworth's appointment reportedly cost the Red Devils a whopping £4.1 million ($5m) including his payoff.

Per The Times, the 53-year-old is now all set to take up a new job as he will accept an advisory role with Warwickshire County Cricket Club. Ashworth has been involved with Warwickshire in an honorary position since 2021 as he was part of their cricket audit committee. Warwickshire are also planning to announce a new performance director, but the ex-United sporting director is unlikely to accept that role as he will work with the county as a voluntary adviser on a range of matters.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Before taking the job at Old Trafford, Ashworth had previously worked as a sporting director at Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion and also with the FA.
