'It's complicated being Kylian Mbappe's girlfriend' - Real Madrid star opens up on his love life and explains why he's still single

The World Cup winner has made a point of shielding his private life from the public eye. That has meant ensuring that little speculation emerges regarding his love life. Instead, the 26-year-old has preferred to remain fully focused on his career.

Mbappe has discussed the complexities of building a relationship when one of the most recognisable sporting stars on the planet. He told L’Equipe Magazine: “Everyone builds their life differently. I did it thinking that football was my whole life, and that I wanted to make the most of my career," he confided in a lengthy interview. "Maybe I'm wrong... Maybe I'm right. Only the future will tell me, or God in due time. When you choose things, the result is easy to accept.

“It comes down to the fine line between paranoia and vigilance. Some people want to harm you, but that's not everyone. You shouldn't overthink it and just jump in. That applies to everyone. Are you married? How did you decide she was the one? You do everything you can to make it work, but how do you guess the obvious?”

Mbappe went on to say of trying to find the right partner in difficult circumstances: “Life is a gamble. They often say that it succeeds for the bold, so you have to try. What's hard in football can be facing the gaze of others. There's something called ego, and some people are afraid of making a mistake. 'I met the wrong person and the whole world saw it!' No, it can happen. The guy next door, who's not famous, has already met the wrong person. It's mostly about accepting that I'm wrong. And if I'm wrong, I get back up.”

Mbappe’s mother, Fayza Lamari, concedes that finding the one will prove difficult for her ‘Galactico’ son. She said: “I recently asked him if he had a girlfriend. He replied, 'Do you see a girlfriend in this mess?' It's complicated being Kylian Mbappe's girlfriend. With all that that entails. He's already had some, and it's not easy for either of us.”

Mbappe has made a positive start to the 2025-26 campaign on the field, netting three times through as many appearances for Real during his second season at Santiago Bernabeu. He has also overtaken Thierry Henry as the second-highest scorer for the France national team, taking his tally of goals for Les Bleus to 52.
