‘She’s not happy with me!’ - Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says he cancelled birthday dinner plans with his wife following Brentford defeat - to watch more football!

Chelsea dropped points yet again in the Premier League last week as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford despite taking the lead. Manager Pochettino was left dejected with the result as he promptly cancelled his birthday dinner plans with his wife, as revealed by the Argentine himself.

He also claimed that he watched multiple football matches across the globe including Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr taking on Al Ain in the AFC Champions League.

Speaking to reporters, Pochettino revealed, "Saturday, after the Brentford game, the draw was like a loss. It killed my wife because I cancelled our dinner. I said I don’t want to go for dinner, I wanted to stay at home. I was lucky because my coaching staff was with me then. We finished the day watching Real Madrid versus Valencia, and had more wine, but nothing exciting. Only watching more football.

"Last few days I was watching all the games. I was not only watching the Champions League and the Championship. I was also watching the Asian Champions League — Al Hilal-Al Ittihad, Al Ain-Al Nassr. I was watching different games."

He added, "It’s true she’s not happy with me, but she knows very well that the mood is not very good. When the mood is not good, it’s not easy for the family. The responsibility is to win and provide good feelings to the fans. You feel the responsibility when things are not so good."

The former Tottenham boss' job is at risk at Stamford Bridge after he failed to produce significant results in his maiden season despite spending heavily. They are currently 11th in the Premier League and their only chance of winning silverware in the current campaign is if they lift the FA Cup title where they have reached the quarter-finals.

The Blues will be next seen in action on Monday as they take on Newcastle United in a league clash before they face Leicester City in the FA Cup on March 17.
