Canada manager Jesse Marsch cleared by CONCACAF after investigation into alleged use of 'offensive language' at Gold Cup

CONCACAF has cleared Canada manager Jesse Marsch amid an investigation into alleged usage of offensive language towards CONCACAF officials at the Gold Cup.

The federration's disciplinary committee found no clear evidence that Marsch did not follow competition rules. He will be eligible to return to the touchline on Tuesday when Les Rouges take on El Salvador on Matchday 3 of the Gold Cup in their group stage finale.

According to a statement, “CONCACAF recognizes the (Canada Soccer Association) CSA’s constructive engagement in the Disciplinary Committee’s investigation."

The federation began disciplinary proceedings against both Canada Soccer and Marsch regarding allegations that he “disregarded regulations applicable to suspended match officials and used offensive language toward CONCACAF match officials” during their Gold Cup win over Honduras on June 18.

Marsch was not on the touchline for that match, as he was serving the second game of his two-game suspension that rolled over from the Nations League in March.

Marsch downplayed the incident in his news conference ahead of their Matchday two contest against Curacao, an eventual 1-1 draw.

Separately, CONCACAF's disciplinary committee reportedly fined Canada Soccer an undisclosed amount for two violations. The fines relate to them “breaching security protocols for accredited delegation officials” and “failing to comply with anti-doping procedures by not providing the required representative for the halftime doping control draw" in the club's victory over Honduras.

Canada takes on El Salvador Tuesday to close the Gold Cup group stage. They currently sit atop Group B on four points.
