    WHAT HAPPENED?

It had been reported that the 28-year-old had been kept away from the first team's training sessions under Erik Ten Hag due to a lack of fitness. However, Martial's agent Philippe Lamboley has now confirmed to Sky Sports that the rumours are not true, and that the Frenchman is in fact nursing a hip injury that will require surgery.

  • WHAT LAMBOLEY SAID

His statement, as cited by Sky Sports, read: "What is said about him is completely false. He was not excluded from the group and he has no problem with the coach, Erik ten Hag. Anthony [Martial] has been in Manchester for nine seasons, and if he was not a great professional then he would not have been at the club for so long. He is simply going to undergo a small operation on his adductors, which he should have done for a while and which did not allow him to be 100 per cent, so he will do it now."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The attacker has not received an offer for a new contract and looks set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. It is anticipated that he will go on a free transfer. According to reports, United would consider bids for Martial during the current transfer window as offloading his £250,000 ($317,000) weekly salary would allow them to invest in players, while still adhering to the Premier League's FFP regulations.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR MARTIAL?

While the club is likely looking to get rid of the Frenchman, Martial has his sights set on staying until at least the end of the season. For now, he will be focusing on recovering from the hip surgery that has seen him sidelined from training in recent days.
