Bobby Wood snapped a 10-game Bundesliga goalless streak as he scored his first of the Bundesliga season for Hamburg on Friday.
Wood found the back of the net in the 34th minute of the match between Hamburg and Cologne. After a free-kick scramble, the American striker did well to stay onside and then pounced on a loose ball in the area, firing it home.
The goal gave Hamburg a 2-0 advantage after Andre Hahn opened the scoring six minutes before.
Though Wood netted a penalty few weeks ago in a DFB-Pokal loss to Osnabruck, it was the first Bundesliga goal for Wood since March of last season. Overall, it is his sixth in the league for Hamburg.
Wood, who signed a new deal with Hamburg over the summer, is considered a likely call-up for the United States national team for its World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras during the upcoming international break.
