The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that the Telkom Knockout semi-final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will be staged at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
According to a statement from the league, the semi-final match at the iconic venue will be staged at 15:00 on Saturday, November 24.
Although, the league did not specify the reasons on why the the clash has been moved from the FNB Stadium, recent reports suggested that the venue was not available to host the two Soweto giants.
A source close to the developments at the Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) recently disclosed to Goal that the venue which hosted the 2010 Fifa World Cup final was booked for a Motsepe Foundation conference on the day.
Furthermore, the source added that the PSL, Telkom as sponsors SMSA, the company running the FNB Stadium were set to meet in order to finalise the venue, but the source said the game would be moved to Durban or Cape Town.
With the PSL's statement, it looks like the Mother City venue was not chosen reportedly due to work on the pitch, thus leaving Durban as the preferred destination.
In addition, Amakhosi were fresh from a 1-0 win over SuperSport United in the last ight on Sunday in Durban and will be gunning to inflict pain on Pirates.
The match comes as a second round bout between coaches Giovanni Solinas and Milutin Stredojevic after Chiefs succumbed to a 2-1 loss at the FNB Stadium in the league a fortnight ago.
In the other semi-final clash, defending champions Bidvest Wits will visit Baroka FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, November 25 at 15:00, while the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is set to host the final scheduled for Saturday, December 08.
