West Ham star touts Ayew's influence at London Stadium

West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna believes the likes of Andre Ayew gives the club a winning spirit.

Following an injury-laden opening months at the London Stadium, the Ghanaian, who joined the side in a club record deal last year, has become an instrumental figure in the Hammers' set-up owing to an impressive second round of last campaign.

He netted five times in 13 Premier League matches upon his return from the Africa Cup of Nations in February.

“I think it’s very important to have winners at the club and we have a lot of international players who have won things, not only our new signings but also players like [Jose] Fonte, Ayew and [Manuel] Lanzini.

“This is important for us because these players bring an open and positive mentality.

"This is the best thing, because you can look forward to what you want to achieve.

“We have signed experienced players and that’s the most important thing for the Club.

"They are used to winning things and will bring that to the dressing room, so we can learn from them."

Ayew, who won two league trophies and two cup titles while on the books of French side Marseille, looks set to perpetuate his good form in the coming campaign, having put up a run of good displays in preseason.

On Tuesday, the 27-year-old netted a sublime effort as West Ham drew 3-3 with Altona 93.
