The Covert Agent: Jamie Young told to wait for new contract by Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar has not yet started contract negotiations with in-form goalkeeper Jamie Young, opening up the opportunity for rival clubs to make a move.

The Covert Agent can reveal the shot stopper, whose contract expires at the end of the season, enquired about beginning talks on a new deal but was told to wait by the club.

Young has been Roar's best player this campaign and the team, currently placed ninth on the A-League ladder, would have suffered more damage if it wasn't for his form between the sticks.

He has made 50 saves in 12 games, which is only behind Western Sydney goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic (67) - who played three more matches.

The 32-year-old, who was born in Brisbane, returned to his hometown in 2014 after 12 years in the United Kingdom - where he also holds citizenship.

Young signed his last contract extension with the Roar in January 2016, and revealed his pride at signing for his local club.

"Brisbane is where I’m from and I’ve loved the chance to be able to play for the Roar," Young said after penning the deal.

The Roar have lost five of their last six games and face a struggling Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night - in a must win game for under-pressure coach John Aloisi.
