Fantasy Football: Splashing big money on Ibrahimovic and Alexis should pay dividends

The Goal Fantasy game is very forgiving in that you can swap out players who underperformed for other options that play later in the game week. While very useful at times, you should still consider that a back-up option with your primary aim still being to own the best 11 players possible from the outset. Below are three players who are must-owns and, conveniently, all play on Saturday.

Don't forget that every month there is an Xbox One or PS4 Package available to the top scoring manager so if you've not played before, register a team and join in, there are plenty of weekly prizes available too so it's never too late to select your line-up.

The game is available for iOS and Android so why not download it now and set your line-up for the next round of matches.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Ibrahimovic has been absolutely terrific since joining Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer. He is one of the biggest stars in world football so his high ownership is, perhaps, unsurprising but the performances have absolutely backed it up. He is currently in the top five of goals scored (15) and, with his cup-winning double in the EFL Cup final, has now passed 25 goals on the season in all competitions.

With these accomplishments in tow, the Swede will now face a Bournemouth defence who have allowed two or more goals in nine of their last 10 matches. United have won 3-1 in their past two matches against Bournemouth and a similar result on Saturday is likely.

Swansea Manchester City Gylfi Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Position: Midfielder

Price: £7.9m

Ownership: 8.96% of managers

Club: Swansea

Opponent: Burnley

The Icelandic talisman has been arguably the best player in fantasy over the past five matches. In that period, Sigurdsson ranks top five among all players in goals, assists, shots on target, and successful crosses.

He is absolutely brilliant in dead ball situations, which makes him all the more valuable as he can create magic at any time against anyone as we saw last week against what was, at the time, Chelsea’s league-best defence.

This week’s opponent, Burnley, have a decent defence but unfortunately for Sean Dyche’s men, they drop from sixth best to sixth worst in goals allowed when away from the familiar confines of Turf Moor. The long term prospects for Sigurdsson are terrific as well since Swansea will face just five top 10 backlines for the rest of the 2016/17 campaign.

Alexis Sanchez

Position: Forward

Price: £9.7m

Ownership: 24.15% of managers

Club: Arsenal

Opponent: Liverpool

Alexis Sanchez has been a Fantasy Football phenom this season. He currently leads the league in goals and has failed to score or assist just twice in the last 10 matches. Despite all this, the Chilean international is not even in the top 10 in ownership.

His high price tag is likely scaring some people off but with his consistency he’s not only worth it but also, strangely, a solid differential play. This week Arsenal will face Liverpool who are coming off an embarrassing defeat to the recently Ranieri-less Leicester. Jamie Vardy and his constant movement gave Klopp’s defence constant issues and given Sanchez's performances this term, he too should get plenty of joy.
