“Kitambi will lead the team on interim basis, until we appoint a new coach. We will appoint a foreigner, who we believe will take us to the next level.”

The Tanzania coach has already overseen two matches since Matano was asked to step aside, winning both against Sony Sugar 2-0 and Mathare United 4-3. The statement to sack Matano, comes hours after the club opted not terminate the contract of midfielder Collins ‘Gattuso’ Okoth.

Okoth, formerly of Gor Mahia, was suspended alongside Matano due to alleged gross misconduct. “As the Disciplinary Committee, we have decided to suspend ‘Gattuso’ for two weeks, after that he can rejoin the team for training.

"It is our hope that he has learnt his lesson and will get back more settled and re-energized,” Ingwe official Oscar Igaida told Goal.

Under Matano's guide, Leopards won GOtv Shield last season, but their journey in continental scene bore no fruit as they were eliminated in first hurdle of Caf Confederation Cup by Fosa Juniors of Madagascar.
