Following Charlie Austin's recent condemnation of Premier League referees after Southampton's draw with Watford, Goal rounds up some of the most memorable tirades delivered by both footballers and their coaches...

Austin, Mourinho & the Premier League's funniest rants

In a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/video-furious-austin-calls-for-var-after-disallowed-goal/lzuvkfq499kd1uajgjtg3qfgw" target="_blank">heated tirade</a>, Southampton striker Austin demanded the&nbsp;Premier League introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) following a “joke” decision that cost&nbsp;the Saints two points against&nbsp;Watford&nbsp;in their&nbsp;1-1 draw.
“It’s ridiculous, they shouldn’t be in the game,” he said in his post-match interview. “We scored a perfectly good goal that was ruled out for offside. The officials cost us two points. They said it was offside, that is a joke.

"Sure there are many positives, we worked hard, we deserved three points and we would have got that had we not been let down by the official."

Following a 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at home in the league, Mourinho <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/respect-angry-mourinho-storms-out-of-man-utd-press/5n6soap3bhny1ftcvua29gdto" target="_blank">heatedly defended his legacy in England</a> – and walked out of the post-match press conference to stunned reporters, demanding respect.
"Just to finish. Do you know what was the result? 3-0. 3-0. Do you know what this mean? 3-0," he fired.

"But it also means three Premierships, and I have won more Premierships alone than the other 19 managers together. Three for me and two for them. Respect! Respect! Respect, man! Respect! Respect! Respect!"

Jose Mourinho, "respect" rant | 2018-19

In the 1995-96 season, Manchester United and Newcastle were involved in a bitter title race – and Kevin Keegan lost his temper on television responding to comments made by Alex Ferguson that some teams wouldn't try as hard to earn points against the Magpies than they would with the Red Devils.
He burst out: "I've kept really quiet but I'll tell you something, he went down in my estimations when he said that. We have not resorted to that. You can tell him now, we're still fighting for this title and he's got to go to Middlesbrough and get something.

"And I'll tell you, honestly, I will love it if we beat them. Love it."

Kevin Keegan vs Fergie rant | 1995-96

When pundit Richard Keys quizzed Coventry manager Ron Atkinson on his side's poor form in 1996, he blased accusations that his side were performing poorly.
"I'm sorry, you can sit there and play with all your silly machines as much as you like," Atkinson raged.&nbsp;"If the boys play badly I'll whip 'em, but I ain't whipping them for that. Who was the man of the match award?" 
 
"Dave Beasant," said Keys. 
 
"Oh, sorry, so he must not have played that bad then," Atkinson continued. "Thanks very much, lads. Goodnight."

In one of the most memorable managerial rants in recent memory, Leicester boss Nigel Pearson was involved in a heated exchange with journalist Ian Baker – with the manager calling the reporter an ostrich.
Rattled Pearson: "If you don’t know the answer to that question then I think you are an ostrich. Your head must be in the sand. Is your head in the sand? Are you flexible enough to get your head in the sand? My suspicion would be no."

The former&nbsp;Manchester United&nbsp;boss lost his cool following his team's match with&nbsp;Newcastle, fending off criticism about the form of Wayne Rooney.
Van Gaal said: "We don't speak any more about&nbsp;Wayne Rooney. You have criticised him, I don't. You."

The aggravated manager then headed for the exit door before turning, pointing, and accusing one journalist - Neil Custis - in particular:

"You too," van Gaal appeared to add. "Fat man, there."

Wenger <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QacTJiakZE&amp;t=1s" target="_blank">turned on journalists</a> ahead of Arsenal's Champions League test against Bayern Munich, demanding that he deserve more credit than wrong information that was flying around that "came from nowhere".
"Why do you look at me?" Wenger asked a journalist.

"Well, you're holding a press conference.."﻿ the reporter responded.

The Reds were preparing to face Stoke at the start of 2009 when Benitez&nbsp;reeled off a list of “facts” about Sir Alex Ferguson’s conduct.
United were to face Chelsea two days later, and Benitez was desperate to make his point.

"I was surprised by what has been said, but maybe they [Manchester United] are nervous because we are at the top of the table," he said.

"But I want to talk about facts. I want to be clear, I do not want to play mind games too early, although they seem to want to start. But I have seen some facts."

It backfired as the press ridiculed Benitez, Liverpool drew a blank at Stoke, United beat Chelsea 3-0 and the Old Trafford faithful sang “Rafa’s cracking up” as they secured the title.

The former Red Devils manager could have a whole gallery dedicated to his epic tirades, but this one will focus on his rant directed at the FA for treating Manchester United unfairly.&nbsp;
He&nbsp;said: "The FA may realise who has produced more players for their country than any club in the world. Maybe they will realise how important we are to England instead of treating us like s***."

Alex Ferguson, four-letter word rant at FA | 2011-12

Following reports that had surfaced about Mourinho possibly getting sacked in early October, former Red Gary Neville <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/neville-blasts-man-united-as-an-absolute-disgrace-after-reported-/19hmn3y5ik2sg1qefwdxzp0rvq" target="_blank">accused the club of their "disgraceful" treatment of the manager</a> –&nbsp;accusing the United hierarchy of "playing Football Manager with the biggest club in the world.
"I hope it's not true but, if it is true, it's an absolute disgrace. The dressing room is leading what's happening. The tail is wagging the dog," Neville said.

"I'm reacting maybe a little bit emotionally, but I don't really care, to be honest with you. It's difficult running a football club, managing a football club, playing in a football team. But there is something rotten to the core."

After Joe Kinnear was appointed as interim manager of Newcastle in 2008, he went on a verbal tirade against the journalists who criticised his performance, swearing 52 times in the interview.
"Which one is Simon Bird [Daily Mirror's north-east football writer]?" Kinnear asked.

"Me," Bird responded.

"You’re a c**t," Kinner said.

"Thank you," replied Bird.

"Which one is Hickman [Niall, football writer for the Express]?" Kinnear continued.&nbsp;"You are out of order. Absolutely f**king out of order. If you do it again, I am telling you you can f**k off and go to another ground. I will not come and stand for that f**king crap. No f**king way, lies. F**k, you’re saying I turned up and they [Newcastle's players] f**ked off."

In a Sky Sports interview with Harry Redknapp, the former Spurs manager&nbsp;turned&nbsp;described as a "wheeler dealer" in the transfer market.
"No, no, no, I’m not a wheeler-dealer, no. F*** off," Redknapp said in response. 
 
Giggles from the reporter died immediately, and the atmosphere soon turned bitter. Despite a hasty apology, Redknapp went on: "I did not make my name as a f****** wheeler-dealer. I’m a f****** football manager."
