Former United States men’s national team captain Michael Bradley has been appointed head coach of the New York Red Bulls, the club announced Monday. The 38-year-old New Jersey native steps into the first-team role just six months into his professional coaching career, after leading New York Red Bulls II to the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro championship.

While no final decision has been made and contract talks are ongoing, the expectation is that the former U.S. men’s national team captain will be appointed in the near future. Bradley also lifted the MLS Next Pro title in his first year with NYRB II.

A record crowd of 9,095 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, N.J., watched the Eastern Conference champs claim the league’s fourth title.
