With just four players over the age of 30 in his current squad, Australia's boss reckons the national team is heading into an exciting period

Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou is excited about the future as he reckons Australia's new generation are "nowhere near their peak period".

Speaking at his pre-match press conference for Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia, Postecoglou highlighted the midfield depth at his disposal as the best example of the Socceroos potential.

With Tom Rogic, Aaron Mooy, Jackson Irvine, Massimo Luongo and James Troisi all well under the age of 30, Postecoglou believes Australian fans have a lot to look forward to.

Add the likes of Mathew Leckie, Mat Ryan, Trent Sainsbury and Brad Smith into that mix and it makes Australia's boss smile.

"We've invested two or three years into them and I think over this next period it will be exciting to see how far they can go as footballers and how far the team can go," Postecoglou said.

"At the same time, Ajdin [Hrustic] has come in and looked really good at training and we had Riley [McGree] in the last camp, so we're constantly challenging things in that area as well."

The 51-year-old added that he expected the entire country to get behind the Socceroos in a vital World Cup qualifier at the Adelaide Oval, while also paying tribute to his support staff.
