Portugal head into Euro 2020 as reigning champions after a somewhat stunning victory in Paris five years ago.
Having never won a major trophy in their history before then, the Selecao overcame Cristiano Ronaldo's early injury in the final to edge France 1-0 thanks to Eder's strike in extra time.
Euro 2020 Qualification
Although reaching Euro 2020 was never really in doubt, Portugal certainly made hard work of qualifying to eventually finish second in Group B.
Things started off in a shakily fashion for the European champions with a pair of draws against Serbia and Ukraine and then a defeat against the latter, but victories over Lithuania and Luxembourg in their final two matches confirmed second place for Fernando Santos' men.
Unsurprisingly, Ronaldo led all scorers with 11 goals - including his 700th career strike in the loss in Ukraine - which was exactly half of Portugal's haul over their eight qualifying games.
Tournament History
Portugal's victory at Euro 2016 was perhaps a surprise given that they only managed to actually win one of their seven games in normal time, drawing all three group matches and needing extra time in both the last 16 and the final, as well as penalties to beat Poland in the quarter finals.
However, it was somewhat of a culmination of decades of near misses for the Selecao, who have progressed past the group stage in all eight of their appearances in the European Championships and lost in the semi-finals three times.
Lifting the trophy five years ago will also have banished memories of Euro 2004 - their only previous appearance in a final - which saw Portugal lose 1-0 to rank outsiders Greece in perhaps the greatest upset in the history of the tournament.
