Orlando City has signed midfielder/left back Yoshimar Yotun from Malmo FF, the MLS club announced Friday.
Yotun joins the club as a designated player, with Orlando City using targeted allocation money to remove the designated player tag from Giles Barnes.

“We were actively looking to add depth in the midfield during this transfer window and are excited to sign Yoshi,” Orlando City general manager Niki Budalic said in a statement. “Yoshi can play as a creative midfielder who can operate both wide and centrally, as well as cover as an attacking left back.
"He stands out for his passing and creative ability, as well as his versatility to play multiple positions. He is a great fit for our long-term plans and someone we’ve tracked since last year. We are pleased to have finally acquired him.”
The Peru international had spent the last three seasons with Malmo FF in the Swedish Allsvenskan, scoring three goals and adding 15 assists in 72 appearances. He was part of Malmo’s title-winning sqaud in 2016.
Prior to Malmo, the 27-year-old Yotun spent multiple seasons in Peru , including five with Sporting Cristal. He also played a season with Vasco da Gama in Brazil.
For Peru, Yotun has scored two goals and added six assists in 64 appearances. He featured in both the 2011 and 2015 Copa America and appeared as a substitute in three of Peru’s contests in the Copa America Centenario.

It has been a busy secondary MLS transfer window from Orlando City, as last week it picked up MLS All-Star striker Dom Dwyer in a trade from Sporting KC.
With Yotun now a designated player, Orlando City has three on its roster with Kaka and Carlos Rivas.
