Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has poured cold water on media reports that they are interested in signing Ndumiso Mabena from Platinum Stars.
According to Motaung, Chiefs have not even submitted a bid or held talks with the former Orlando Pirates striker whose contract is coming to an end in June this year.
He said he's only been reading in the news that Amakhosi are interested in Mabena.
"We have never submitted a bid to sign Mabena. What you are saying, I'm also reading it in the news. People like to sign players on our behalf," Motaung said in an interview with Isolezwe.
Motaung went on to reveal that they are no intending to bring in anyone new, saying they do not want to demoralize the younger players by increasing the size of their current squad.

"We are not looking to make additions to the squad right now. The team is strong. If we add more players, then we will be breaking the younger players," Motaung said.
"At the moment, we are concentrating on our development. We had three players at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, and they could well play at the U20 Fifa World Cup," he continued.
"We are not looking to have a big squad, and if we happen to sign anyone from outside, it would be because we need them," he reiterated.

Chiefs recently renewed contracts of their key players, including among others, Eric Mathoho, George Maluleka, Tsepo Masilela and Lorenzo Gordinho, and Motaung said it wasn't difficult negotiating new deals with the aforementioned players.
"I won't say it was difficult negotiating the new contracts with our players. There were a few challenges that we faced, but when contracts are being negotiated, there are too many things to consider. So, challenges will always be there," he said.
"What's good is that the majority of our key players have been with us for quite some time, and that makes it easy even when we promote the younger players from the development so that they get to adapt quicker," he added.
"It's important for our senior players to have a good time at the club. There are things that we want to achieve at Chiefs in the next few years. So, it's important for young players to gain experience from the senior players so that when they [senior players] leave, they leave the team in great shape. That's what we want to achieve," Motaung concluded.
