Bundesliga, Premier League or Champions League, regardless of where he plays, Erling Haaland scores goals. The Norwegian star has already piled up 12 across his first seven overall Manchester City appearances (10 in six EPL games).
Now, Haaland’s Man City club will host the striker’s most recent squad, Borussia Dortmund of German’s Bundesliga, as part of the Group G stage of the 2022-2023 UCL event. Kickoff is Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. ET, at City’s Etihad Stadium.
Man City holds the Group G lead on fellow 1-0-0 Dortmund by +1 goals.

The visiting Sky Blues rumbled past Sevilla 4-0 in the stage opener, which included a Haaland brace. BVB, meanwhile, dispatched Copenhagen 3-0 at home, showing that they’re surviving after the Haaland transfer.
It feels like UEFA were thirsty for this matchup to manifest in the tournament immediately following Haaland’s transfer. Luckily for us, the intrigue also presents plenty of Champions League betting opportunities. (Just wait until Haaland returns to Germany for the second leg Oct. 25.)

Unsurprisingly, Haaland-less Dortmund lands as a heavy underdog to No. 9’s new club.
City’s insistence on piling up two-plus goals in seven of eight overall outings this season will remove some return on investment from betting on the lower goal totals.

We’ve previously talked in detail about City’s domination in UCL group play, and Haaland owns the headlines. So let’s focus more on Dortmund’s season so far.
Dortmund have endured the loss of Haaland and Jadon Sancho (Manchester United) and a cancer diagnosis for Sébastien Haller, who had only joined the Signal Iduna Park residents this summer.
On the bright side, the switch in manager from Marco Rose to returning former BVB assistant and interim manager Edin Terzić brought a more fluid style that might fit their personnel better.
Dortmund have started 4-0-1 in Bundesliga, ranking second as of Friday, Sept. 9. They’ve shown a more diverse attack from the likes of Jude Bellingham, who showed flashes of brilliance in last year’s Champions League, along with steadiness from Marco Reus, a fit Gio Reyna, and the emerging Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
Already without Ayermic Laporte (knee) likely through the international break, Man City awaits injury news on the back line for John Stones (undisclosed) and, more vitally, Kyle Walker (undisclosed).
They’re uncertain for Wednesday action. A Walker absence could prove costly for at least the goal differential, if not the result.

Manchester City 3-1 Borussia Dortmund
Unlike Sevilla, Dortmund has plenty of forward push on the attack. I’m tempted to push their tally up to two, especially if Walker has to sit for this match.
Man City has scored 14 goals across their three home fixtures and typically carry a palpable home-pitch advantage.

Since City’s moneylines are hardly profitable, we again pivot to better opportunities. I succeeded in targeting the goals Over 3.5 had (+155) odds versus Sevilla, but City did the heavy lifting by achieving the Over themselves.
The juice is much less favorable than the Sevilla tilt. After all, BVB has a higher ceiling for scoring.
Still, I’ll go back to the well with the world’s hottest scoring club at home, facing a more creative offensive opponent than they faced in their last UCL fixture.
