Surely - surely - that is the end of West Brom's stay in the Premier League. Sam Allardyce has masterminded a few fantastic rescue packages in his career. He looked to be posting the next parcel to West Brom's supporters five minutes ago. But Keinan Davis has sunk the Baggies in dramatic scenes. His goal means the visitors trail Brighton and safety by nine points with five games to go. This isn't The Great Escape anymore; this is Titanic.

What an almighty&nbsp;kerfuffle that is from Lille! Now they are two down! Lyon have a second and it is an own goal for Jose Fonte. A free-kick for the hosts is curled in off the right edge, towards the far post, where goalkeeper&nbsp;Mike Maignan rises to collect. Except, he doesn't! Instead, he manages to push it onto his own player with enough force that it bounces back into an open net. That is a mistake of the most spectacular order.

Almost three for the Baggies! That's first blood to Lyon and it is a corker of a finish from the onetime&nbsp;Leicester City man, who has found a happier lease of life here than at the King Power Stadium. But this talented bunch of players and their supporters would strongly contest that - and with this, they now sit poised to move for the biggest prize remaining...

City set for treble delight?

Victory here of course wouldn't have just been a piece of silverware for Tottenham; it would have been a path to continental football that now appears testing at best. The winner of the Carabao Cup qualifies for the newly created Europa Conference League next season - unless they have already claimed a berth in a higher European competition. City will quite clearly be in the Champions League, which means that this spot will either go to sixth or seventh in the Premier League - a position that depends on where Leicester City or Chelsea finish and which of them wins the FA Cup.

It does genuinely seem an age ago when City were struggling at the start of the season, less than their usually imperious self. It's been a while since that storm petered out, but it is worth remembering that, after winning only the Carabao Cup last term, Pep Guardiola has stoked their hunger once more. This feels, more than ever, like a generation-conquering team, the likes of which has not been seen since Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm of Manchester United.

In Harry Kane, they have a striker who deserves far more than he has got so far. It was always going to be a tough ask for Ryan Mason, parachuted into this job six days ago, to find a fairytale conclusion to this game. But the sad truth is that his side were brutally outmatched by and large for the most part.

It is De Bruyne's final action, pretty much, as he makes way for Bernardo Silva. A moment earlier, City also brought on Rodrigo to replace&nbsp;Fernandinho, while Tottenham introduced&nbsp;Dele Alli for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham Hotspur arguably have six minutes plus injury time to save their season. Kevin De Bruyne comes very close to making it two for their opponents, his effort deflected back into open play after he cuts through the midfield. The Belgian has been smoother than a bar of milk chocolate today.

Ilkay Gundogan! That is a miss and a half from the Manchester City man. Raheem Sterling is the man who does all that excellent work with another breezy run down the left edge, beating out the defence before squaring inside, where it is promptly skewed wide. A minute later, Mahrez unleashes a strike that Lloris parries with another top-drawer save. You can see why the latter has won a World Cup.

Hugo Lloris is the man with the stop at his right post again. This time, a City corner springs a header for&nbsp;Fernandinho, angled low and well towards the bottom corner. The Frenchman has dug Ryan Mason's side out of trouble so often.

The first changes of the game arrive with just under 25 minutes on the clock - and it is a double swap from Tottenham. Gareth Bale came back to the club where he made his name to help them win trophies - and he is on from the bench, alongside&nbsp;Moussa Sissoko. Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Moura have made way for the pair.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg looks ready to tear an absolute strip off&nbsp;Sergio Reguilon! Tottenham piece together one of their best attacks of the game through Harry Kane, and the England captain slips the former into the left edge of the box. Rather than cut inside, he taps it on for his left-back - who entirely misreads the situation and lets it run out for a goal-kick, earning the astonished ire of his midfielder.

Fernandinho has a nibble - more than a nibble, to be honest - at&nbsp;Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and picks up the third booking of the game. Moments later, Raheem Sterling races away into the Tottenham box, cutting around the left edge, and Hugo Lloris scrambles off his line to collect. Ilkay Gundogan sticks a header over the crossbar a moment later. City have not lost their stride over the interval, but Spurs seem a little bit sturdier.

Giovani Lo Celso with the curled finish! This is a far better start from Tottenham, pressing high straight from the off, with Son commanding the game in the left channel. They play it around the box and the Argentine attempts to bend an effort in at the far post. Zack Steffen, who has had a quiet game so far, is across to cover it with a fine stop.

We're back underway at Wembley for the second half now. Will Manchester City pick up where they left off? Or can Tottenham burst out of the gates themselves to make this more of a contest?

The Spaniard will wonder why his side haven't scored. They have been, by and large, all over their opponents' final third, bullying them almost off the park at points. His opposite number will wonder why his side have allowed them to do that. Spurs have done little to blunt the prowess of Raheem Sterling and company - and Hugo Lloris feels like he has done overtime already.

Joao Cancelo, what a strike that is! Hugo Lloris has kept Tottenham Hotspur in this tie a few times already and he does so again with an absolute corker of a save, leaping towards his right post to push away the Portuguese's peach of a shot, lofted around a half-crowded box. Somehow, this is goalless at the break. The half-time whistle goes and Spurs have held on.

Aymeric Laporte picks up a booking now for hauling Lucas Moura back as the latter looks to embark on a speedy counter-move through midfield. It's one of the very few occasions where Tottenham have actually had more bodies than City in a phase of attacking play. There's going to be one added minute in this first half.

Mahrez is about two inches away from burying a beautiful strike into the top-left corner. Even he can't quite believe that City haven't found the mark yet. A rare pair of Tottenham counters hand them a corner though, after Son exerts some pressure down the right flank. The delivery is soft and Spurs have to wheel back into their own half at the double to cut off the looming threat of Foden and De Bruyne on the break.

It's all over at&nbsp;Estadio de la Ceramica - and it is the Blaugrana who take the three points on the road. Antoine Griezmann's double is enough for Ronald Koeman, Lionel Messi and company to see them to victory. It caps a trying week that has been marred by the off-field saga of the European Super League.

Pep Guardiola and Ryan Mason are exchanging some emphatic gestures on the sidelines, in front of the fourth official. It surrounds a foul on Harry Kane, but could just be a chat about how on earth City have not managed to find an opener yet. Tottenham feel like they are holding onto this one by their fingernails. They've had one shot to eight from their opponents - or nine now, as Riyad Mahrez wrestles a finish out at the far post.

Raheem Sterling, what a chance! Fernandinho slips a beauty of a throughball to the England man, and he is pressured too far to the left in the end to unload a clean shot, with Lloris doing the work once again. His delivery flashes across the face of goal and out of play. If there had been a body in support there, that would have been the opener.

Sergio Reguilon picks up the first booking of the game, to further heap pressure on Ryan Mason's side. They just seem incapable of getting out of their own half without turning the ball straight back over to a hungry Spurs attacker, and the Spaniard is shown a yellow card for hacking down De Bruyne after one such instance. Somehow, City fail to find an attacking opportunity from the incident, cited for a shove in the box as the ball is whipped back in.
