No surprises here

Roberto Mancini had some words for RAI Sport too, but the most pressing ones will surround the status of his captain&nbsp;Giorgio Chiellini. Naturally, it is a little too early to tell whether his knock will keep him out of his nation's final Group A clash with Wales - a match that feels like it could be a formality for both teams but will undoubtedly have a major effect for who they could face in the knockout stages. "We’ll see tomorrow and hope it’s nothing serious," the coach has said.

Switzerland suffer worst drubbing for half-a-decade

They'll likely be spur of the moment more than anything else, but just who could those sides be that Acerbi views as threats to Italy's tournament hopes? Five sides sit above them in the world rankings - Belgium, France, England, Portugal and Spain. All five are among the favourites to win this tournament. Victory for all of them - save maybe Spain - in this second batch of fixtures - should seal their spot in the knockout rounds, and then it coul get very interesting.

More from Francesco Acerbi with RAI Sport now, and he - like surely many of his squadmates right now - feels that Italy can push on for a Wembley finale at Euro 2020. “I am interested in the wins, then if we concede or not is irrelevant, as long as we keep winning,” he says. “We try to attack and defend as a team, that’s why we score many goals and concede so few. It’s been going well so far! “There might be three or four sides in the tournament who have better talents or individuals, but I said before the competition started that there was something in the air with this group. I think we can go far.”

Immobile remains instrumental for Italy

Francesco Acerbi found himself quickly subbed into action today after Giorgio Chiellini was forced off, and the Lazio man admits he was less than shocked by the injury. “I didn’t even have a second of warm-up. I saw Chiellini seemed fine and then all of a sudden he took off his armband and needed to come off,” he's told told RAI Sport. “This is what happens with a tournament after a long season, there is fatigue, you have to be always ready when called upon. We’ve always said it doesn’t matter who plays, we all give our contribution and keep the same team identity.”

50.7 per cent. That's the proof in the pudding that Switzerland - despite finishing three goals down - had more ball in this game that their hosts. They lodged five shots in that second half, six across the whole game - but managed only one on target. That is a figure that is pretty ropey in international football, even against a side like Italy boasting a defensive record that's almost terrifying to think about. If there is a silver lining for&nbsp;Vladimir Petkovic, it is that a win over Turkey on Sunday would give them four points - likely enough to make the last-16 either way.

Ciro hitting hot streak

Two wins from two at Euro 2020, two goals in two on-target shots for&nbsp;Manuel Locatelli, and two steps taken closer to ending the wait for a major trophy stretching back a decade-and-a-half. The bitter sting of missing Russia 2018 is fading fast in Italy, and this free-flowing team is the reason. They have delivered the goods - and how! - once more. Their coach will know that improvements can still be made, that they can tighten up in places most people won't even notice. But two three-goal routs of sides both tipped as potential dark horses speaks volumes about who is truly offering themselves up as a contender for the European throne.

Switzerland, chastened on a tough night at Stadio Olimpico, are not out of the running yet - but they are going to need victory in Baku against Turkey to have any chance of making the last-16.

It's almost over for Switzerland - and it is going to be a very long night for them after this. If you can somehow believe it, Italy are going to end this game with slightly less ball. More to the point, they have had only three shots on target too. All three of those shots have found the back of the net. That is a rotten result for the visitors, and they will know it.

The Italian Job is complete - and Switzerland have been well and truly outfoxed in Rome! Ciro Immobile decides that whatever&nbsp;Manuel Locatelli - replaced as part of a double change with&nbsp;Matteo Pessina and&nbsp;Bryan Cristante only moments before - can do, he can do too. Running away with it in Rome

Italy have managed 12 shots today - not as many as they did against Turkey - but there is a case to be made that this has been an even more complete performance. Their passing has been a little more wayward this half, as has their win ratio in duels for the ball. But right now, they're looking every inch potential winners at Wembley next month, perhaps more so than any side bar Belgium. Will they be there in July?

Into the final straight

Nicolo Barella is down injured and&nbsp;Breel Embolo picks up a yellow card in short order. Ruben Vargas is on for the visitors now too, as the look to make a final gamble in this game. Surely the two-goal lead is beyond them now, especially when they haven't cracked it so far.

Seriously, you could drive a bus through some of those gaps and Ciro Immobile looks to do so again, tearing down the left wing. His shot is lashed across the face of goal, a little too wayward to cause the trouble it probably should be doing.

A bit of panic inside the Italy box after Switzerland unexpectedly slip the net and ping some balls around. Xherdan Shaqiri sees his shot blocked and then - very belatedly - the offside flag goes up. There are ways to beat this Italian defence, but so far, the linesman's flag has kept the visitors guessing what they are.

Manuel Locatelli is the first player to score from outside the box for Italy at the European Championships since Andrea Pirlo in 2012 (against Croatia). It's not quite the long-range screamer of Euro 2020 - David Marshall will be having nightmares about that one for a while - but it was an absolute cracker regardless.

Italy have the silk - and now they show the steel, as&nbsp;Donnarumma is called to action.&nbsp; A deflected ball allows Switzerland to pounce and&nbsp;Zuber pushes a low shot in towards the keeper that needs defusing. Down the other end, Berardi lofts a fairly routine shot over the crossbar. Plenty of energy still in this contest.

Steven Zuber and&nbsp;Silvan Widmer have both been introduced now, as Switzerland look to salvage something. There's still a half-hour to go in this one, which is plenty of time for them to find something if they can swing the pendulum. It's also plenty of time for Italy to put another one or two past them, but the time for worst-case scenario thinking is beyond them now. They have to push.

Livin' La Vida Locatelli

Poor Switzerland. They'd started this half with more spark and drive, and Italy have promptly taken the wind out of their sails with some superb play. It's been like a metronome, watching them play it around the park. If Italy win Euro 2020, they are going to do it with some of the slickest football this tournament has to offer. How do you beat a problem like Roberto Mancini and his men? The question remains. But their visitors may be done for the night now.

Game, set and match for Italy?

Two's a party for Manuel Locatell! That is a break - and that is a finish from the 23-year-old to match it too. Having not had a real sniff this half, Italy unfurl the red carpet again for a beautiful move down the right before playing it around the box. Locatell meets Nicolo Barella's pass outside the box, looks up and fires a rattling, low beauty into the bottom-right corner. He's never scored twice in a game before - what a time to do so!

Leonardo Bonucci is absolutely clattered now by the eagar&nbsp;Gavranovic and the stand-in Italy captain is left to writhe on the turf. The Switzerland sub gets a yellow card for his efforts, but it doesn't seem to dampen his side's enthusiasm for hard tackles, with Schar immediately bringing&nbsp;Berardi down in a challenge a few moments later. It's slowed the game down, this burst of scrappy play.

This is the kind of energy Switzerland want going forward, with a corner and a dangerous throw-in chance both won inside the first few minutes. Nico Elvedi sticks a header wide from the former and&nbsp;Embolo is deemed to have pulled&nbsp;Acerbi back to defuse the latter.

We've resumed action in Rome, and Switzerland have made a change at the break. Mario Gavranovic is on, to try and see if they can break the deadlock. Turkey, trailing in Group A's other game at the interval today, came out of the blocks with some fierce spirit today, which Italy will need to be wary of.

Far be it from us to speculate on what is and isn't in the bag, but Italy fans must be looking at their record and thinking that their place in the last-16 is all but confirmed now. They've watched the home side play some insidiously intelligent football, smooth and smart, and keep Switzerland at bay with a degree of comfort. But there is still a long way to go in this.

One shot is all it takes

The free-flowing Italy revolution - though after three years, can you really call it a revolution? - continues apace in Rome. Manuel Locatelli has delivered them the advantage with the only goal of the game so far, though the loss of skipper&nbsp;Giorgio Chiellini to injury early on is a big blow. Switzerland are not quite all at sea, but they will need to find some forward momentum to turn this one around in the second half.

Now Switzerland show a little more promise, wtih&nbsp;Breel Embolo taking the line on down the left. He thinks he should have a free-kick, or at least a corner, when&nbsp;Acerbi bundles him over, but it's not coming.&nbsp; There's going to be two added minutes in this first half.

Swiss show some needed spark

Italy have only had seven shots in this game so far and just the one - their goal - on target. It feels a lot more than that, to put it mildly. They've only had just over half of possession too, and yet they feel some comfortably above Switzerland's level so far. Gianluigi Donnarumma ventures out of his box to clear something, possibly to give him something to do at the back. He's never conceded more than one goal in a game. He's simply watching his side - who have worked hard, make no mistake - run the show.

Economy drive

Having won each of their last nine games in a row without conceding before tonight, Manuel Locatelli's opener is the 29th goal in a row Italy have scored without reply. At 23 years and 159 days old, Locatelli is also the youngest goal scorer at Euro 2020 and the youngest for Italy in the Euros since June 2012 when Mario Balotelli netted at the age of 21 years and&nbsp;321 days.

Young guns (go for it)

Italy have kept a clean sheet in each of their last nine matches in all competitions, going 875 minutes without conceding since a Donny van de Beek goal for the Netherlands last October. They haven’t kept 10 clean sheets in a row since doing so between November 1989 and June 1990. Switzerland have hardly had sight of goal so far, so it may take some serious momentum shifts for them to not build on that streak.

Impregnable Italy nearing record

This has become a more open game in these last few minutes - Switzerland sighted a chance through&nbsp;Ricardo Rodriguez - but it is Italy still pulling the strings. Insigne pushes a finish wide to the right, then Immobile wanders offside trying to bring in a pass from the latter. Giorgio Chiellini's night has just come to a sudden end. The Italy captain is off in a first-half change. He removed his armband almost immediately after what looked to be a relatively innocuous step, and sent a command to the bench straight off the bat. It looks like a hamstring. Italy are still fuming about that call and may well do for some time after that. Yann Sommer has got away with a concession there, but the Swiss goalkeeper may have other things on his mind. He's expecting his second child any time soon; questions were asked about whether he would even play.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks - not when he knows them like this, anyway! Giorgio Chiellini rises above to meet that corner, beating out everyone in the box, and the 36-year-old brings it to ground before smacking a close-range finish in. But VAR intercedes - and it's a handball! He's deemed to have touched it with his wrist as he tried to control it. Italy are fuming, but Switzerland have been let off the hook there.

...but it certainly is Italy's so far. They are looking as sharp as a pin with their play, silky with a shrewd touch. Immobile whips a header over and moments later,&nbsp;Domenico Berardi has a left-footed finish blocked. They are pressing hard early. The offside flag is up, but&nbsp;Ciro Immobile slipped the net far too easily for Switzerland to be happy there, lunging after a wide cross speared deep into their box. Italy have the chance to make their night a living hell - but then again, Switzerland will know that they have the potential to pick holes too if they are smart.

After the shot-fest that was Turkey against Wales, hope might spring eternal that we'll see just as much here, particularly given how Italy went last week. Let's not get too hasty however. As France and Germany displayed yesterday, heavyweight clashes - and make no mistake, this is one of them, two sides inside the top 15 in the world - can sometimes leave you wanting.

As proceedings wind down in Baku - though Wales will surely celebrate their win and rightfully so - we shift our attention to Stadio Olimpico in Rome. This venue has seen its fair share of legendary football games - and it could play host to another tonight, as the two sides emerge onto the field. Bale back to his best?

Rob Page has really been thrust into this role of course but he has risen to the honour wonderfully - and it shows in his post-match comments. "I couldn't be more proud, I've just said to them to create the number of chances we did is unbelievable," he says. "We are disappointed we didn't score more but to win in the manner we did, credit goes to the players. "The lads rose to the challenge and our supporters did a great job too."

That late concession against Wales spoiled the perfect start for&nbsp;Vladimir Petkovic and his side in Baku, and now they have returned to south Europe for an even tougher test. They endured a rotten run at the back end of 2020, albeit against tough opposition - Croatia, Spain and Belgium, to name a few. But they are unbeaten this year, with a win over the USMNT the likely pick of their results so far. Italy presents their sternest test since last autumn though.

Swiss face tall order in Rome

Having opened Euro 2020 with a comfortable drubbing of Turkey - tipped by many as dark horses - the credentials Italy have in search of a first major trophy since the Germany 2006 World Cup are not to be sniffed at. The performance of last week's opponents today could be potentially viewed as their triumph being a lesser result, but you'd be mad to chalk Roberto Mancini off - a man who has lost only two games since he took charge three years ago, when they were absent from Russia 2018. In fact, since France won that tournament, they have been beaten only by Portugal in the autumn of that year, and haven't tasted defeat since. It will take something very impressive to topple them.

Aaron Ramsey missed two big chances before he was third time lucky - and speaking to BBC Sport, the Juventus man knows it too. "I felt a bit of relief, I had two chances before to score," he says. "That first half today was superb, we really dominated. I think we thoroughly deserved the win. The penalty was a big moment but we didn't panic, we didn't leave anything out there, and we worked hard from each other. "We've given ourselves a brilliant opportunity now, we've got another big game to go, we are in a good position now. I've got a few [Juventus] team-mates playing for Italy so it will be nice for me out there, but I'm representing my country now and we will do everything to win that game."

There may have only been a pocket of Welsh support in Baku, but you can bet a million more were watching back home - and Gareth Bale, with BBC Sport, is sure to credit them too as he previews the nation's hopes. "You'd like to think that [four points] would be enough, we will have to wait and see," he says. "If you'd offered us four points at the start we would have bitten your hand off. "Playing in front of no fans is difficult, the fans were fantastic, I know most were Turkish but the Welsh fans were great too. It helped get your adrenaline going. Gareth Bale has been speaking to BBC Sport, and is naturally over the moon with that result. "I'm absolutely delighted with the win, we fought hard and&nbsp;worked our socks off," he says. Bow down

That clean sheet is nothing to be sniffed at - Danny Ward had a superb day in goal for Wales - but it's that attacking nous that has done the job. Wales squandered a few chances there, more than they probably would have been happy with had Turkey managed a response - but those two goals keep their tournament football dream alive and kicking. That scoreline is a little hard on&nbsp;Senol Gunes and his men, you could argue - but they were defeated by a performance that became complete in the end.

That's it! It's all over! Wales have won in Baku and handed themselves what may well be the ticket to the last-16 at Euro 2020 in Group A! Turkey toiled away in that second half, roared on by a partisan crowd, byt they could just not find the answer that they wanted, even when Gareth Bale missed a penalty - and then the captain redeemed himself with a fabulous assist to seal the deal. Just as he did a moment ago, he runs straight from the corner flag towards the near post. Neco Williams is on for Dan James as Wales look to try and eat up more time. There's surely another two minutes to come, at an absolute minimum. Wales have won a corner after some wonderful forward play - and Bale, instead of keeping it in the corner, ventures into the box himself. His shot is blocked, but falls back to Moore, who rifles another attempt in and wins a second corner.

Oh, it has all just kicked off in the Wales penalty box! A foul is given against Turkey, and suddenly both sides are squaring up for a scrap. Ben Davies, Chris Mepham and&nbsp;Burak Yilmaz are all booked. The incident looks to have been spawned when the latter looked tap a prone Wales player on the turf. Hakan Calhanoglu is also booked, after all that, too. There were four extra minutes shown by the fourth official, but we'll surely have more now.

Fisticuffs aplenty

Danny Ward, take a bow! He has kept his side's advantage intact with one of the stops of the game. A Turkey corner - again, a weakness tonight for Wales - is speared in and&nbsp;Merih Demiral plants a diamond header towards the bottom-right corner. Ward palms it away, majestically. It's edge-of-the-seat stuff - not made any easier to watch when James and Wilson then break down the other end and can't combine to catch out the scrambling Turkish defence.

It's the end of Aaron Ramsey's night in Baku - and what a contribution he has made. Those two early misses are forgiven and forgotten - for now - after he half-volleyed the only goal of the game in shortly before the break. Harry Wilson is on in his place.

With just under a quarter-hour on the clock,&nbsp;Yilmaz - who has roamed all over in search of something, anything from referee&nbsp;Artur Soares Dias today - nabs a corner for a slight deflected delivery and hurls himself at the subsequent ball like he's diving off a 10m Olympic springboard. From hero to zero?

Three attempts in three minutes from Turkey, and no wonder - it is as if that miss has given them a second wind, one they weren't exactly needing to begin with. Umut Meras sees a shot blocked,&nbsp;Kaan Ayhan has a header saved by Danny Ward and Cengiz Under can only watch his right-footed effort be steered away. It comes after Bale nearly caught Cakir's goal-kick on the rebound too following that penalty - a surprisingly shoddy effort from the shotstopper to restart the game.

What has Gareth Bale just done?! My word, that is a horrible miss from the forward and he knows it too. He steps up and plants it towards the top-left corner - and misses by a metre or so, sticking it almost into orbit. Turkey have just been handed one of the biggest let-offs of Euro 2020. The man so often prolific with penalties has just let that one go begging in sensational fashion. It remains a one-goal game.

End-to-end chances again! Connor Roberts gets lucky with a deflected ball and feeds a low tight cross into a congested box. A very concentrated spell of pressure for Turkey now - and my word, what a chance for&nbsp;Burak Yilmaz! A corner plays havoc across the Welsh defence - they have looked a little unsteady whenever such occasions have arisen - and the striker wrestles a deflected ball over the crossbar. Another corner comes to nothing and Ward takes as long as he can before firing the goal-kick downfield.

Turkey still searching for answers

Gareth Bale wins a corner for Wales now with another teasing run. The Real Madrid man, who didn't always quite find the marks at Tottenham this season, and against Switzerland last week, has got Turkey's defence on puppet strings. The set-piece comes to nothing - Bale blazes over when it comes back to him -&nbsp;but as long as Rob Page and his men keep the pressure up, Turkey will grow more&nbsp;desperate.

The set-piece is well dealt with, and Turkey race back down the opposite end again. They know they have to chase this one now. A loose shot bobbles through traffic and winds its way to Ward's gloves.

We've resumed in Baku - and Turkey have made a double change to get things kicked off. Merih Demiral and Yusuf Yazici are both into the fray, looking to give them a spark of energy. They nab one too, pushing high straight from the off and skewing a half-chance wide.

Talk about an absolutely huge half of football in the way Group A will shake out at Euro 2020. Aaron Ramsey's half-volley a handful of minutes from time - after two fluffed chances earlier on - means Rob Page's men are on track for their first win of the tournament, and not a moment too soon. They will have a fight on their hands to keep their lead in the hostile Baku dusk - Turkey won't roll over so easily - but the advantage is now with them rather than the adopted hosts.

Tackle of the tournament contender?
