Latest Premier League Winner Odds: Liverpool head the betting despite Manchester City defeat

Manchester City have cut Liverpool's advantage of the top of the Premier League table to four points.

The holders emerged victorious from a fast-paced, breathless affair at the Etihad Stadium. Goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane ended the Reds' unbeaten start to the campaign, setting the tone for an intriguing second half of the season.

The hosts were able to control the midfield battle with Fernandinho playing a vital role in dictating proceedings. City did survive an early scare though as a scrambled effort was deemed not to have crossed the goal-line by a mere 11 millimeters.

Still holding that four-point advantage, Liverpool are an industry-best quote of 5/6 (1.83) in bet365’s latest Premier League winner odds. Such a triumph would be their first top-flight title since 1990.

This defeat was the first time the Reds have conceded more than once in a Premier League game since a 2-2 draw with West Brom in April. Their tally of 10 goals conceded this season is the best by a significant margin although there is now nothing to choose between the two leading contenders on goal difference.

bet365's Steve Freeth said: “It was probably the result that everybody bar Liverpool backers wanted to see with their lead now down to four points.

“However, they now have a run of nice looking fixtures up until the end of February when they visit a rejuvenated Manchester United in what should be a cracker.”

City were cut from 13/8 (2.63) to 5/4 (2.25) after their victory on Thursday night. Aguero continued his emphatic record against Liverpool at home, netting for the seventh consecutive occasion against the Merseyside club at the Etihad Stadium.

The Argentina international is now 7/1 (8.0) for the Golden Boot prize this term as he trails Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (10/3) and Harry Kane (9/4) by four strikes.

Tottenham sit six points off the top of the table in third and at 16/1 (17.0) they are seen as the only other creditable challengers in the outright betting, albeit at a much bigger price.

The rest of the chasing pack are available at three-figure prices with Chelsea (125/1), Manchester United (250/1) and Arsenal (500/1) completing the traditional 'Big Six' at the top of the Premier League winner market. It’s 4500/1 bar those.

The FA Cup takes centre stage this weekend with Liverpool’s next league game coming away at Brighton on January 12, whilst City are in action two days later at home to Wolves.
