Kenyan leagues pave way for Fifa break

The 2017 Kenyan Premier League and other lower leagues go to recess in order to pave way for Fifa break, which runs from today (March 20) to Thursday, March 28.

So far, the KPL is done with two rounds save for four teams (Muhoroni Youth, Sofapaka, Western Stima and Kakamega Homeboyz), who will play their catch-up matches on Sunday, as the only exceptions.

Gor Mahia are leading on the ladder having won all their matches, followed by newbies Nzoia Sugar, Chemelil Sugar, Mathare United and Bandari in that order.

During the break, national teams across the world, will be engaged in international friendly matches in a bid to raise their standings in the monthly Fifa rankings.

Kenya’s Harambee Stars will host Uganda and DR Congo at Machakos County Stadium on Thursday, March 23 and Sunday, March 26, respectively and Coach Stanley Okumbi has called up a provisional squad of 37 players, 11 being foreign based with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama leading the team.
