ISL 2017-18: Vladic Grujic: FC Pune City was calm and compact in the match

On Wednesday evening at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, FC Pune City got the better of hosts NorthEast United in a 0-1 victory as stalwart Marcelinho struck in the 86th minute.

The victory takes the Stallions on the second spot in the league standings, just below Bengaluru FC. With 25 points from 14 matches, FC Pune City look set to book a place in the top four for the first time.

When asked about the result, assistant coach Vladica Grujic stated that the three points are highly vital as the tournament is edging closer to the playoffs.

‘’The victory is very important. Everyone knows the importance of a win in this stage of the championship. The three points which we have won are very important for us in the run of future matches,’’ he expressed.

Assessing the team’s performance, Grujic claimed that team was calm and composed, and also praised their organizational character.

‘’Our players showed discipline in their play and also showed patience. They waited for the opponent to commit a mistake, which happened two to thrice times, where they (FC Pune City players) showed calmness. The team remained compact in the 90 minutes,’’ explained Grujic.

FC Pune City will now fly to Mumbai to face their Maharashtra counterparts Mumbai City FC on Sunday evening. ‘’We are now thinking of our next opponent and enjoy the matches,’’ commented the assistant coach whose side will look to do the double over the Islanders on February 11.
