Ghana Premier League not attractive, says Osei

Ghana Football Association executive committee member Wilfred Kwaku Osei says the Ghana Premier League is not attractive enough to lure sponsors on board.

Osei, who doubles as the owner and bankroller of Tema Youth FC, claims that matches played at his club's home grounds as well as Sokakope, home of Wafa, are the only games that exhibit quality football in the top-flight.

The league lacks a title sponsor after Capital Bank cancelled their three-year contract last season, however, Chinese outfit StarTimes have signed a 10-year television deal with the league until 2027.

''The competitiveness of the Ghana Premier League is high, however, there are still several issues facing it. I must admit that the league is not attractive enough as we may want it due to poor pitches," Osei told Asempa FM.

"It is a fact that our league can't be compared to others. Even the pitches that clubs train and play their matches on alone don't make our games attractive. When the clubs play on the astro turf at Tema Sports Stadium and Wafa's home grounds at Sogakokpe, you can witness good and quality display of football. Such games are the ones that make our league a little attractive unlike the remaining ones.

"The other matches are poor and take away the shine from the top-flight. We have to improve the standard of our pitches in the future to help develop the game as well as the players," he added.
