Sydney FC's quest to keep their A-League double-winning squad together has suffered a blow with former marquee Filip Holosko deciding to return to Europe.
The Sky Blues confirmed on Monday that Holosko will part ways with the A-League champions at the conclusion of his two-year deal, with the Slovak unable to continue as a marquee player due to the promotion of Johnny Warren medallist Milos Ninkovic earlier this month.
Holosko leaves Sydney with 18 goals and eight assists from 52 A-League matches but without having completely convinced all Sky Blues fans throughout his time at Allianz Stadium.
The 33-year-old winger insisted, however, that he has relished his time in Australia.
"Winning the championship and the Premier's Plate was an incredibly special moment for me and my family," Holosko said in a statement.
"This is a hugely professional and family club and I will never forget that.
"I wish Sydney FC all the best for the future."
Holosko's departure means he is the second player to leave the Sky Blues following their grand final win over Melbourne Victory, with winger Bernie Ibini having already been sold by Club Brugge to Vancouver Whitecaps after his loan deal with Sydney came to an end.
Sydney coach Graham Arnold has already signed Ninkovic, fellow marquee Bobo, Jordy Buijs and Matt Simon to new deals for 2017-18.
Holosko will not play in Sydney's friendly against Liverpool on Wednesday.
