Champions League Betting: Impressive Manchester City still favourites with Barcelona close behind

Manchester City remain favourites to win the Champions League after a terrific win 3-0 in Shakhtar Donetsk put them within touching distance of the knockout stages.

Despite Shakhtar being a notoriously tough place to go, Pep Guardiola’s men exorcised the ghosts of last season’s defeat there with a blistering attacking display and are now 9/2 (5.50) with bet365 to win their first Champions League title.

Victory in the return fixture in two weeks’ time could be enough to see City through to the Last 16 with two games to play, and bet365 already make them 1/8 (1.12) to take the points.

In a similar boat to City are one of Guardiola’s former teams, with Barcelona sitting pretty atop Group B after seeing off Inter 2-0 at Camp Nou to move within one win of the knockouts.

Even without the injured Lionel Messi, Ernesto Valverde’s men cruised past their Italian opponents and can be backed at 5/1 (6.0) to win the tournament for the fourth time in 10 years.

Available at 6/1 (7.0) are Juventus, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s new side doing just enough to claim victory at Old Trafford in the Portuguese’s first trip there since 2013.

That win means the Serie A champions are already five points clear at the top of their group, and maintaining their 100 per cent record when Manchester United visit Turin next week will see them through.

Although Liverpool thrashed Red Star Belgrade 4-0 on Wednesday, they have been pushed out a touch from 8/1 (9.0) to 9/1 (10.0) – the same price as Bayern Munich, who won 2-0 at AEK Athens.

Things could have been much worse for Paris Saint-Germain but Angel Di Maria’s stunning injury time equaliser salvaged a point for them at home to Napoli, leaving them third in the group.

As a result, bet365 saw fit to push them out from 9/1 (10.0) to 10/1 (11.0), just ahead of a wholly unconvincing Real Madrid at 11/1 (12.0) after the holders could only beat Viktoria Plzen 2-1 at home.

Atletico Madrid suffered their worst defeat in over seven years as they were beaten 4-0 by an impressive Borussia Dortmund, although Diego Simeone’s men are 12/1 (13.0) whilst the Germans are out at 33/1 (34.0).
