Betting: Manchester City land 80/1 correct score after battering Burton Albion 9-0

At around 1/33 (1.03), few were expecting anything but a comfortable Manchester City win over Burton Albion at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

What followed, though, was an emphatic performance that resulted in a 9-0 score line in favour of the hosts.

Pep Guardiola's men were 4-0 up by the half-time break but refused to take their foot off the gas in the second half with Gabriel Jesus leading the charge, netting four goals.

Kevin De Bruyne got the scoring underway with just five minutes on the clock, the ninth League Cup strike of his career. Since the Belgian's debut in September 2015 no player has scored more goals in the competition.

Oddschecker reported that the best price on the 9-0 correct score before the action got underway was a whopping 80/1 (81.0).

William Hill had the 9-0 score line available at 50/1 (51.0) at one stage but that was slashed to 16/1 (17.0) once the news emerged of a strong City line-up emerged.

A total of 141 punters placed wagers on the outcome according to Hills. The biggest came from a punter in Aberdeen who had £50 on the selection earlier in the day, netting £2550 in the process.

“A lot of cash came in for City to win by a large margin after the team sheet was announced however there were a couple of shrewd punters who predicted earlier in the week and even today who predicted Pep was going to take this one seriously,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Manchester City domination against Burton

The one-sided affair at the Etihad saw City equal Pep Guardiola's biggest margin of victory as a manager. The 47-year-old previously guided Barcelona to a 9-0 win over L'Hospitalet in the Copa Del Rey in 2011.

Unsurprisingly, the 9-0 defeat was also the heaviest in the history of English cup semi-finals.

Manchester City are just 1/25 (1.04) to win the second leg at the Pirelli Stadium. William Hill make the Premier League champions a 1/2 (1.50) shot to lift the trophy in their latest Carabao Cup outright odds.

Tottenham hold a 1-0 first leg advantage over Chelsea and are 11/4 (3.75) to win the competition with Maurizio Sarri's men at 5/1 (6.0). Burton are no longer being quoted in the market after their defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
