AS Vita defender Botuli Bompunga in fitness race ahead of Caf Confederation Cup final

AS Vita defender Botuli Padou Bompunga is racing against time to recover from a groin injury ahead of Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup final, first leg at against Raja Casablanca.

The defender injured himself during Tuesday’s training session and has been doing light training in a bid to be fit for Sunday’s match at Stade Maohamed V.

Besides Bompunga, Vita have no other injury concerns and captain Nelson Munganaga is already talking about winning the Caf Confederation Cup for the first time ever in their history.

“We are much focused and the morale is very good,” Munganga was quoted as saying by Media Congo.

“It's only normal, because we are preparing for a final. It's a real pleasure to play this final, we have to win it, which will do us a lot of good in our careers, and the people of Kinshasa are just waiting for that.”

With chief striker Jean-Marc Makusu fit for the game, AS Vita coach Florent Ibenge has the potency needed to upset their Moroccans in their own backyard. Makusu has scored nine goals in the tournament so far and is also not worried about the different weather they have experienced in Casablanca.

"We are here to get the best possible result, which is very important for us. We are very calm and confident and we will continue our preparations. It is cold, but it is not as bad as that. We do not have the time to talk too much, but to concrete.”

Vita have not been good travelers this season, having struggled on the road in this competition after recording only one win, three draws and two defeats.
