Arhinful slams AshGold's 'unintelligent & senseless' decision to sack Akonnor

Ashanti Gold former midfielder Augustine Arhinful is unhappy with the decision to terminate the contract of coach C.K Akonnor, halfway into the season.

Earlier reports suggested that Akonnor was relieved of his duties for ‘abandoning’ training to work as a television pundit for the ongoing Fifa World Cup.

However, Arhinful revealed that the coach was sacked for praising the efforts of Elmina Sharks’ owner in the development of football in the country.

"Ashanti Gold supporters must immediately take their club back from Dr Kwaku Frimpong. He can’t run the club like his business and moreover, he’s a staunch supporter of Asante Kotoko,” Arhinful told Kumasi FM.

“The decision to sack C.K Akunnor is senseless and unintelligent. I can say on authority he was sacked because he applauded Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum for his investments in football [Elmina Sharks].

"Those close to Dr. Frimpong reported that to him and added that Akonnor said Dr. Nduom is richer than him which got him angry.

"This was revealed in a meeting leading to his sack so what is the rationale behind this useless decision taken by the owner?

"He definitely doesn't have what it takes to manage our club, especially when he is die-hard supporter of our regional rivals,” he added.

Ashanti Gold, who have appointed John Christensen as interim coach, are joint leaders of Ghana Premier League with Medeama on 27 points.
