Wrexham new boy ignoring ‘noise’ generated by Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney in a bid to earn long-term future under Hollywood co-owners

The 32-year-old striker was snapped up by the Red Dragons as a free agent after untimely injuries robbed them of Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher. The decision was taken to bring in more firepower, with Hollywood co-owners making more funds available.

Bodvarsson has only signed a short-term contract for now, but looked lively when making his debut as a second-half substitute in Wrexham’s disappointing FA Cup first-round defeat to Harrogate. It remains to be seen how prominently he figures under Phil Parkinson from here.

The Iceland international is determined to make the most of any opportunities that come his way, saying of his decision to head for North Wales after being released by Bolton: “It was really a no-brainer for me. I’ve been in Iceland since I became a free agent, just keeping fit and training with my local team that I grew up with. Fitness-wise, I don't feel too far off it. It's just getting the minutes now in the tank, that was a huge positive [against Harrogate] to get minutes back in the tank because it has been a while. It's about getting the sharpness back and it’ll come.”

Bodvarsson is excited to be part of Wrexham’s ambitious project, but is eager to avoid any distractions as he looks to prove his worth to Parkinson or any other suitors. He added on life at one of the most talked about teams in the English Football League: “It's just exciting football-wise, what the club is doing. Since I came here, the standard has been really high and the environment is really positive as a football player.

“That's what I was most excited for, you have all the noise around the club at the moment, which is positive, but first and foremost it's just great to be back in competitive football again. I know what I can do. For these three months it's about getting the sharpness back and enjoying myself again and hopefully expressing myself on the pitch the best I can.”

Bodvarsson has previously spent time with Wolves, Reading, Millwall and Bolton – giving him plenty of experience when it comes to life in League One and the Championship. He will be hoping to make more than a fleeting cameo appearance for a club that continues to draw attention through its performances on the pitch and in an award-winning documentary series.
