USMNT star Matt Turner admits he’s had 'moments to leave behind forever' with Nottingham Forest but is ready to fight for No. 1 spot after Matz Sels arrival

Turner revealed he has a "real fight" now that even more goalkeeping competition has arrived at Forest via the January transfer window. Regardless, though, he has no plans to forgo his starting role with ease.

Speaking to ESPN, Turner said: "This is a results business," he said. "And we haven't been getting the results that we probably deserve or need."

As for the criticisms gone his way, Turner relayed that he feels like the remarks have been harsh, but he's also owning up to his errors. "Everything that could possibly have gone wrong in certain moments has gone completely wrong," he said. "Sometimes as goalkeepers you might get away with one or two things, and it feels like this season I've gotten away with zero. It's tough to take."

Regardless, he still believes he can make an impact: "Now I've got a real fight on my hands for the position. I'm no stranger to being in these types of scenarios. I've been overlooked and doubted many times in my life and my career, and I wouldn't have gotten to this point if I wasn't confident in myself. I can be somebody that has a real impact on this football club."

Turner has struggled of late in net for Forest, but in general, the Premier League side have been woeful of late. In a recent 2-1 loss to Arsenal, the American goalkeeper was nutmegged on the near-post by Gabriel Jesus - leading to criticism of his abilities due to the error. However, Jesus was untouched by four defenders leading up to the goal and only needed to take two touches off a throw-in before firing past the USMNT keeper'.

Now, with the arrival of Sels, there's no room for error from Turner - or the Forest defenders - as they could be next.

Forest take on Bristol City in the FA Cup on Wednesday after drawing the first leg of their tie 1-1. With Sels not being bale to participate in the match due to late registration, it's expected that Turner gets the nod.
