‘Top player’ Josh Sargent has ‘hunger’ for second Premier League chance at Leeds – with USMNT striker seeing summer transfer talked up

There is no guarantee that the Whites will be playing top-flight football next season, but they have reached the Championship play-off final and will face Southampton at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in what has become the richest game in British sport.

If Leeds were to bounce back into the big time at the first attempt, then there have been suggestions that they would look to raid the ranks at Norwich for proven marksman Sargent – with the United States international having registered 16 goals for the Canaries as they secured a play-off berth in 2023-24.

Sargent only managed two goals during his previous stint at the highest level in England, but has matured as a player and person since then. With that in mind, former Leeds winger Sharpe has told William Hill when asked if the American would be a shrewd recruit: “You need to have a bigger squad if you are going to stay in the Premier League and Sargent is a top player, so he is one who can do well. He seems to have the hunger and the right attitude, so will relish the step up of the Premier League.”

Sargent will be hoping to put himself in the shop window this summer when representing his country at the Copa America, with Leeds unlikely to be the only side shooting admiring glances in the 24-year-old’s direction when another transfer market opens for business.
