    WHAT TUCHEL SAID

In the aftermath of the defeat, Bayern manager Tuchel conceded defeat in the title race, acknowledging that their chances of holding on to the Bundesliga crown were none. Speaking to Sky Germany, Tuchel bluntly admitted: "Yes, of course. This is clear. Naturally, I have no hope anymore. No no no. After today’s game, I do not need to tell you anything more. How many points behind are we? 13?”

The German manager went on to "congratulate" Leverkusen who remain undefeated in the Bundesliga.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Having secured 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles since 2013, Bayern's reign at the top of German football is now under serious threat. A frustrated Tuchel expressed disappointment in his team's performance and added: "The game wasn’t of a high standard. Clear lack of speed. We completely missed the passion. It’s absolutely not enough. We actually thought that we would no longer get to the point where a game would go like that. Now it’s obviously happened again.”

Leverkusen churned out a late 2-1 win over Hoffenheim despite trailing for 88 minutes. And Tuchel admitted that the result of their rivals did affect the team's morale before taking the pitch against Dortmund.

"That (Leverkusen win) certainly didn't help us," he said. "It was 0:1 for a long time. We thought we could do it again. It may have been a part. It may be that the international break was part of it. We had something completely different in mind. It’s obviously extremely difficult for us to approach games with the right bite.”
