Goalkeeper Ortega made a rare start for City at Ederson's expense against Liverpool but they still fell to a convincing defeat on Merseyside. The 32-year-old was asked about Reds fans singing Pep Guardiola would be "sacked in the morning", to which he gave a blunt reply.

    WHAT STEFAN ORTEGA SAID

When asked if it would help motivate the City players to "prove people wrong," the German told talkSPORT: “Probably. Someone told me before that this area is probably not the best part of the UK. Yeah, I think the manager reacted really well, erm yeah.”

Regardless of his remarks, table-toppers Liverpool are on course to dethrone defending Premier League champions City after this win at Anfield. They are now 11 points clear of Guardiola's side and the gap between the two teams appears to be widening.
