Will Sofyan Amrabat stay at Man Utd? Moroccan midfielder quizzed on permanent transfer after sealing season-long loan move from Fiorentina

Having spent much of the summer pursuing the Morocco international midfielder, the Red Devils finally put a season-long loan agreement in place with Fiorentina towards the end of the window. Amrabat will spend the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign at Old Trafford.

He has already endeared himself to the Red Devils fan base, with a lively full debut taken in against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, and he told reporters after that contest when quizzed on his future plans: “I don’t think about that. For me, today, I am a Manchester United player. The only thing I can do is every day to give everything that I have, to do my best, to try to help the team. I hope we have a fantastic season, I hope we can win something and then later we will see what will happen. Of course, I would love to stay here, but that’s not important for me. I don’t look too far into the future.”

United were not the only side to express interest in Amrabat, as he was heavily linked with Liverpool at one stage, but he insists that Manchester was always his preferred destination. The 27-year-old added when asked if it had been a difficult summer for him amid so much uncertainty: “Yes, of course. After the last game with the club, it was the Conference League final with West Ham and from that moment, the window started for me. A lot of clubs, a lot of speaking, talking, but for me it was clear I wanted Manchester United. It was long, long months for me, difficult months for me, but at the end it’s nice on the last day that I signed here and that I’m here is now the most important.”

Amrabat made his Premier League debut for United against Burnley, but was an 89th-minute substitute in that contest, and will be hoping to make a top-flight starting XI for the first time in English football when the Red Devils face Palace again on Saturday.
