  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Supporters have been quick to react to the news of Hojlund being dropped and feel it's a consequence of his poor form last season that saw the striker manage just four Premier League goals.

X user @a488346 posted: "Good. There needs to be consequences for being sh*t, instead of being given a contract extension like Woodward would've done. Make an example out of him."

Another fan, @Shreyash_Patil0, added: "Good. He has to know he is nowhere near good enough for this football club. Just move on buddy. You ain't built for this."

Manchester United fan @mufcdom94 also had some strong words for Hojlund and some of his team-mates: "Sabotage behaviour from Sancho, Antony, Garnacho and Hojlund. Accept the message and find a new club. We still need players and these clowns are clearly set on sabotaging them efforts."

@InsideTrack1958 added: "I love the ruthlessness..for too long we've kept players not up to it."

But @iamcholar wasn't so sure: "United and Amorin not handling this well at all."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Manchester United open up their campaign with a difficult test against Arsenal. Amorim has brought in plenty of attacking talent, with Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha all arriving, but there are still big questions marks over the team's midfield and defensive capabilities. Meanwhile, Arsenal have also bolstered their squad this summer by signing the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard and Cristhian Mosquera in a bid to challenge for the Premier League title.

    WHAT NEXT FOR HOJLUND?

Amorim's decision to axe Hojlund from his squad looks to be a pretty strong message to the striker about his future at Manchester United. A move to Milan could be on the cards, with his father having reportedly indicated his son is now open to a move to San Siro.
