    THE BIGGER PICTURE

He was courted by leading sides in the Premier League prior to heading for the Bundesliga, with Manchester rivals City and United regularly linked with big-money moves for his signature. • WHAT THEY SAID

Ferdinand is being left angry as he watches Kane’s exploits from afar, with the former Red Devils defender telling his FIVE podcast after seeing Kane net his third hat-trick of the season against Borussia Dortmund on November 4: “His third hat-trick! Every time I see Harry Kane’s name come up with the match ball and a hat-trick, I puke inside my mouth. I’m thinking, why – why?! – did we not go and get him?”

Instead of splashing out on Kane, United snapped up Denmark international striker Rasmus Hojlund for £72m ($89m). The 20-year-old frontman is yet to get going – despite finding the target on five occasions in the Champions League – and is still waiting on his first Premier League goal after making nine appearances in the English top-flight.
