10 years of NXGN: Olivia Moultrie, Linda Caicedo and where 2024's best women's football wonderkids are now

2024: After signing for Chelsea in the summer of 2023, Aspin spent the 2023-24 season back on loan with former club Bristol City, but her time with the Robins would end on a sour note as they suffered relegation from the Women's Super League. For the 2024-25 season, Aspin again went out on loan, this time to newly-promoted WSL side Crystal Palace. However, a devastating ACL injury in November cut that spell short.

2025: Aspin's focus for the forthcoming year is on her recovery from that knee injury, with her unlikely to feature again in the 2024-25 season as a result of it.

2024: Koga made the leap overseas, joined Dutch side Feyenoord and started all of the club's final 11 league games of the season after breaking into the line-up in late January. The defender's year would yet get bigger, too, as she was included in Japan's squad for the Olympic women's football tournament in France. There, Koga started three of Nadeshiko's four games, including the heartbreaking 1-0 defeat in extra time to the United States in the quarter-finals.

2025: Koga has continued to assert herself at Feyenoord in the 2024-25 season, starting every league game to date and even netting a trio of goals, including a brace in the 5-3 win over Excelsior. For Japan, she scored the winner against the United States in February as her country won the SheBelieves Cup.

2024: Joseph enjoyed her first involvements with the U20s, included in the squad that travelled to Colombia for that year's World Cup. She only made one start, in the group stage against Fiji, but marked it with four goals. Joseph would also add to her lone appearance for Lyon's world-class first team, getting two more chances to impress in the latter stages of the 2023-24 season.

2025: After remaining at Lyon for the first half of the 2024-25 campaign, making just one league appearance, Joseph moved to Strasbourg on loan in the New Year. Regularly involved with France's U19s now, it's anticipated that she will travel with the team to their European Championships this summer, should they qualify.

2024: After making 11 appearances for the Orlando Pride in the NWSL and the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup, albeit just one start, Allen was loaned to USL Super League side Lexington in September. There, she made nine starts, but did not end her goal drought. That has unfortunately continued with the Canada youth teams, too. Allen was part of the U20 side that reached the quarter-finals of their World Cup, starting all four games, but couldn't find the back of the net.

2025: Allen, now back at Orlando ahead of the new NWSL season, will hope for a more prolific 2025.

2024: Diallo signed for Galatasaray in the summer of 2024. Scoring six goals in her first 10 league appearances for the Turkish giants, the teenage striker also gained experience in the Champions League with the move and scored a hat-trick in qualifying, helping Gala to reach the group stage for the first time. The Senegal international then started four of six games there.

2025: Diallo will hope to keep up that great goal-scoring form at Galatasaray ahead of this summer's Women's Africa Cup of Nations, at which Senegal will make just their third appearance.

2024: Signed by Angel City ahead of the 2024 season, Thompson started 10 games and made 15 appearances for the Los Angeles side. The young full-back enjoyed a strong year on the international front, too, starting every game as the U.S. finished third at the U20 Women's World Cup.

2025: After training with the USWNT in early 2024, Thompson started 2025 with a call-up to a futures camp, where senior head coach Emma Hayes was able to take a closer look at her, and was then given her debut at the SheBelieves Cup in February.

2024: Phair signed for Angel City ahead of the 2024 NWSL season and made six matchday squads in the competition, but her only minutes came in one short appearance from the bench in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup in July. That was at least in part due to her consistently flying around the world while representing South Korea's youth and senior national teams, with the young forward - the youngest player in senior Women's World Cup history - a constant for the U17s in the World Cup and Asian Cup.

2025: Phair will hope those minutes for Angel City increase in 2025, as she starts to become more accustomed to the demands of travelling and performing. The club is searching for a new head coach, too, and that could impact how much of a look-in the teenager gets.

2024: Scott remained a key figure for club and country through 2024. She helped Alajuelense win another league title and qualify for the inaugural CONCACAF W Champions Cup, was a regular starter at senior level for Costa Rica and also represented the U20s at the World Cup, starting all three of their group stage fixtures.

2025: After celebrating her 18th birthday back in October, opportunities overseas may now become more feasible for Scott and it will be interesting to see if 2025 is the year that she chooses to make the next step in what looks like a promising career.

2024: Dragoni secured a valuable loan move to Italian champions Roma ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Owing to her talent, she made an impressive impact at the club, with a rather even split of starts and substitute appearances accompanied by a handful of goals.

2025: Dragoni will hope she can continue in this form in the build-up to the European Championships, where she'll be bidding to help Italy enjoy success. After that, her aim will be to make her mark at Barcelona, though another loan spell could well beckon for 2025-26, given how tough that team will be to break into at this moment.

2024: Luvanga had a superb first season in Saudi Arabia, with 11 goals from 14 games helping Al-Nassr win the title. She started the 2024-25 season in similarly strong form, with five goals in eight league games before the turn of the year, three in three in the Champions League and a hat-trick in her sole cup appearance.

2025: Having helped Tanzania qualify for a first World Cup at any level in 2022, thanks to her performances for the U17s, Luvanga will be one of her country's star players this summer as they prepare to return to the Women's Africa Cup of Nations for just the second time, and first time since 2010.

2024: Galic made the leap overseas in 2024 when she signed for Dutch champions Twente. She's still finding her feet but has made a handful of appearances in the league and Champions League, scoring her first goal for the club in a European qualifier in September. Galic made her debut for the Matildas a month later, after being an important player for Australia's U20s at the World Cup and Asian Cup earlier in the year.

2025: Galic's focus for 2025 will be on earning more game time at Twente and contributing to further success for the dominant power in Dutch women's football in recent years, while also keeping herself in the picture for the senior national team.

2024: Injuries meant Enderby's first season at Liverpool started a little slowly but things improved in the second half of the 2023-24 campaign, with her an important member of a team that finished fourth in the final WSL standings. After going away with England U19s in the summer, and scoring twice as they reached the semi-finals of the Euros, she continued to make strides with the Reds in the first half of the 2024-25 season, scoring four goals before the winter break.

2025: Enderby's aims for the second half of the season will be to simply keep that going, with her progress also impressing those in the England youth set-up to earn her a bump up to the U23s in recent months.

2024: Soto's Pachuca were consistent in their quest to win a first Liga MX Femenil title in 2024, but just could not get over the line, losing the semi-finals of the play-offs to Monterrey in both the Torneo Clausura and the Torneo Apertura. Elimination in the group stage of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup was disappointing, too. It was a more uplifting year for Soto on the international front, as she helped Mexico to the knockout stages of the U20 World Cup, beaten only in extra time by the U.S, and then made her senior debut in October.

2025: If you can't beat them, join them, right? Soto kicked off the New Year with the news that she has signed for Monterrey, winners of both Liga MX Femenil tournaments in 2024. After five years in Pachuca's first team, having come through the youth set-up, it'll be interesting to see how she fares in a new environment.

2024: Yohannes enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2023-24, emerging as a key starter for Ajax as they reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and finished just two points off Twente in a tight Eredivisie title race. Amid attempts from the Netherlands to secure her international future, with Yohannes having lived in the country since she was 10 years old, her performances also drew the attention of the U.S, where she was born. In June, she marked her USWNT debut with a goal, aged just 16, and in November, she committed to representing Emma Hayes' side moving forward.

2025: Yohannes will be keen to feature more for the U.S. through 2025, with her sure to be an important figure as Hayes turns her attention to the cycle focused on the 2027 Women's World Cup. At club level, there are trophies on offer, too, with Ajax firmly locked into another title race with Twente and sure to have ambitions in the cup.

2024: Injury has hampered Guzman's time at Bayern Munich. A serious knee problem sidelined the full-back for almost a year, meaning she only returned to action with the second team in September. She was able to accumulate good game time there towards the end of 2024 though, while also getting back into the national team picture and playing a couple of times for Bayern's first team, too.

2025: With regular game time imperative for Guzman, given her recent return and young age, the defender was loaned out to the Utah Royals at the start of the year, ahead of the new NWSL season. A recent return to fitness allowed her to be involved in Colombia's first games of 2025, with Copa America likely to be on her schedule in the summer if she can stay injury-free.

2024: After becoming an increasingly regular starter following her club debut at 16 years old, Ortega kicked off the year by signing a new contract at Athletic Club, keeping her in Bilbao until the summer of 2026. At international level, she made her first steps in Spain's U20s, starting four of five games on their run to the World Cup quarter-finals.

2025: Ortega will continue to be an important player for Athletic through the second half of the season, as the team looks to return to European competition for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign.

2024: Dudinha played more games than ever before in Sao Paulo's first team in 2024, helping them finish runners-up in the league. For her country, the young forward scored two vital extra time goals to fire Brazil into the quarter-finals of the U20 World Cup, though they were beaten at that stage by North Korea, the eventual champions. However, Dudinha's performances at youth level didn't go unnoticed further up, with her called up to the final two senior camps of the year and able to make her international debut in October, aged 19.

2025: Dudinha will hope she can continue to impress the national team staff throughout 2025, in the hopes of making Arthur Elias' squad for Copa America in the summer. Towards the end of the year, the teenager will get the chance to play in the Copa Libertadores for the first time, too, having helped Sao Paulo qualify for the competition.

2024: Tanikawa had a breakout year in 2024. Signed by Bayern Munich in January, she was loaned to Swedish side Rosengard for the calendar year and scored 16 goals in 20 games to help them win the Damallsvenskan title. In the middle of that remarkable introduction to European football was inclusion in Japan's squad for the Olympic Games, where she played twice from the bench and scored a dramatic winner against Brazil in the group stage.

2025: It'll be interesting to see what impact Tanikawa can make at Bayern Munich in 2025. After such a fantastic year in a very good European league, she's certainly shown she has the ability to be an asset to the German champions and is starting to get the opportunities to prove it.

2024: Moultrie continued her well-documented progress in her fourth NWSL season, playing more than ever before and scoring five goals, the same number she had bagged in all of her three previous seasons combined, as the team secured a playoff spot, but lost in the first round. On the international front, while the midfielder missed out on a place at the Olympics, she did rack up three more caps, having won her first two at the very end of 2023.

2025: Moultrie will be keen to keep adding to that number throughout 2025, while also looking to play a key part in a more successful season for Portland.

2024: Signed by Chelsea in the summer of 2023, but loaned back to Twente for the forthcoming season, Kaptein ended her time with the Dutch club in style as she helped them win another Eredivisie title, the cup and the Super Cup. The midfielder has started half of Chelsea's games before the winter break. On the international front, Kaptein has also made real steps forward, after breaking into the senior side in 2023. She's now starting on a regular basis for the Netherlands.

2025: Not only should Kaptein be in the Dutch squad for the European Championships then, but she should be a key player as the 2017 champions look to taste glory on the continent again. There are plenty of trophies up for grabs for Chelsea as well.

2024: Gaupset had her best season yet for Brann, scoring seven goals and providing two assists as her side came up short in the title race, but at least sealed a Champions League place. There was an international debut for the teenager at the start of the year, too, and a first senior goal for her country in October.

2025: The talented midfielder will hope to stay in the picture with the senior national team as the European Championships approach, with her looking a sure bet to make the squad now. After that, it would not be a surprise to see talk of a big transfer circulate, though Gaupset told GOAL previously that she was in no rush to make the move overseas, with her aware that she has plenty to improve on while in Norway.

2024: Alber enjoyed a breakout 2023-24 season with Hoffenheim, racking up six goals and five assists in 20 league games, despite just 13 of those being starts. Sadly, though, she's been unable to continue that momentum into the new campaign after suffering an ankle injury in September which required surgery.

2025: Alber's focus now is on recovering from that setback, getting back to full fitness and finding the form that made her one of the stories of the season last term. New Germany boss Christian Wuck has already shown he is willing to give young players a chance to impress so, if she comes back strongly, she could well get into the national team picture ahead of the Euros, too.

2024: Aline's big move overseas came in 2024, as she joined the North Carolina Courage on a contract through 2026. Joining midway through the NWSL season, her impact was always going to be limited, but she would get off the mark for her new club before the season was out. After winning her first senior cap in 2023, Aline earned more opportunities with Brazil, too, making a further five appearances for her country before the year was out.

2025: It'll be interesting to see what Aline can do in her first full season in the U.S, having had a few months to get used to a new environment, her new team and the playing style of the league. She'll be keen to show good form not only to benefit the Courage but also her international chances, with Copa America to come this summer.

2024: Lopez kicked off the year by making her senior debut for Spain, helping her country win the inaugural Women's Nations League title in her first camp. She started to get plenty more opportunities at Barcelona, helping them win an historic quadruple, and broke into the Spain senior team, to the extent that she was included in their Olympic squad.

2025: The talented teenager continues to take strides with club and country, with her likely to head to this summer's senior Euros with La Roja.

2024: Caicedo's stock continued to rise in a year where she became an Olympian for the first time and her Colombia team came so close to eliminating Spain, the world champions, in the quarter-finals, only to lose on penalties.

2025: It's another big year for Caicedo, who looks set to play in a fourth senior major tournament in four years at the 2025 edition of Copa America. Club success remains on the cards too, with Real Madrid into the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League for just the second time.
