Nuno Espirito Santo SACKED by Nottingham Forest after breakdown in relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis as ambitious swoop for USMNT boss Mauricio Pochettino immediately lined up

A breakdown in his working relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis has led to Nuno being relieved of his managerial duties at the City Ground, with the Portuguese taking to airing professional concerns in public.

He is also said to have suffered a falling out with Global Head of Football, Edu, who was acquired by Marinakis from Arsenal in the summer to oversee football operations across his multi-club ownership group.

A brief statement on the Reds’ official website confirmed the news. It read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as Head Coach.

“The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club.

“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”

Ex-Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno was appointed as successor to Steve Cooper in December 2023. He won 28 of his 73 games at the helm, securing survival at the end of his first season before claiming a seventh-place finish in the Premier League and European qualification last term.

Various candidates are now being mooted to inherit the reins at Forest. Sky Sports report that United States boss Pochettino is one of those in the frame - despite working towards a World Cup on American soil next summer - with Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner also of interest to Marinakis and Co.
