Julian FinneyJose Mourinho vs Antonio Conte
New year, same Mourinho - 2018 began with the Manchester United boss claiming that he 'does not have to act like a lunatic on the sideline' during matches, something which hit a nerve with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. The Italian bit back, but only to be met with a stinging reply from Mourinho in regards to a match-fixing scandal which Conte was caught up in during his time in charge of Juventus. The Chelsea boss slammed Mourinho as 'a little man' and called him a fraud for his public reaction to the sacking of Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri in 2017. The two have put a lid on the row for now, but it'll certainly boil over again during the rest of the season.

Arguably the biggest managerial rivalry the Premier League has ever had, the battle between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger peaked in 2004 when Cesc Fabregas comically threw a slice of pizza at the former Manchester United boss in a post-match brawl. Following a heated match at Old Trafford which would end the Gunners' 49-match unbeaten run, a number of players and staff from both sides were involved in the incident which only highlighted the tension between the two parties further. A true battle of two managers on a quest to secure their club's status as the best in the country.

Jose Mourinho has always enjoyed sharing his success and has never been shy in downplaying opposition managers, which Arsene Wenger found out when 'The Special One' was appointed Chelsea manager for the first time in 2004. The two would trade blows via the media throughout Mourinho's first spell in England, with the now-Manchester United boss labelling Wenger as a 'specialist in failure'. The way in which the two approach the game has also been the centre of rows, with Arsene's 'Wengerball' disagreeing with Mourinho's pragmatic approach.
GettySir Alex Ferguson vs Rafa Benitez
Rafa Benitez's time at Liverpool naturally saw him come up against Sir Alex Ferguson and the Spaniard would waste no time in getting under the Scotsman's skin. Benitez's repetitive claims that Ferguson spent too much time talking about referees and trying to influence decisions led to one of the most memorable rants in English top tier history, with Benitez presenting a number of facts to his United counterpart.

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola would first come up against each other while the former was in charge of Inter, and the latter Barcelona. Champions League clashes turned sour and it would end with Mourinho's infamous charge across the Camp Nou pitch after the Italian side knocked Barca out of the competition in 2010. The rivalry would then be intensified by Clasico surroundings once Mourinho took over at Real Madrid, with eye-poking and name-calling just two examples of the relationship between the two camps under the managers, and again in the Premier League with both Manchester clubs.
Getty ImagesBrian Clough vs Don Revie
Despite the two both hailing from Middlesbrough, Brian Clough and Don Revie would go on to play out one of the most interesting, and indeed entertaining, rivalries that football would ever witness. Clough often called for Revie's Leeds side to be punished for their physical approach to the game and had no qualms about branding the club as cheats, only to take over as manager in the early 1970s. Clough would fail to live up to Revie's status at Elland Road, however, and was famously sacked after just 44 days.
Getty ImagesJose Mourinho vs Frank Rijkaard
Like many of Jose Mourinho's rivalries, this one started in European competition. Chelsea travelled to Barcelona in February 2005 for a Champions League tie and would eventually lose 2-1 having led the game, with referee Anders Frisk sending off Didier Drogba. "When I saw Rijkaard enter the referee's changing-room at half-time I couldn't believe it," Mourinho blasted after the game. It would spark a string of arguments with Frank Rijkaard, one of which called for Lionel Messi to be banned for diving.
Getty ImagesFabio Capello vs Arrigo Sacchi
"For [Fabio] Capello, football is all about winning,” Arrigo Sacchi said of the future England manager when taking over as AC Milan boss. “He does not see beauty in the game." Capello had taken up a caretaker position as Milan boss at the end of the 1986/87 campaign and was the fans' choice to stay on as manager, before Sacchi took over and led the club to two European Cups and a Scudetto. The two were open with the dislike of one another, but it was often Sacchi who would lead proceedings.
GettySir Alex Ferguson vs Kevin Keegan
The season is 1995/96, and both Manchester United and Newcastle are in the hunt for the Premier League title. Kevin Keegan's outfit had led the race by 12 points earlier in the season but now find themselves behind Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils going into the final games of the season. "You can tell him now, we're still fighting for this title and he's got to go to Middlesbrough and get something," Keegan famously said, "And I'll tell you, honestly, I will love it if we beat them. Love it." Fergie won the battle of the mind games, however, and picked up yet another top-flight title.
Jose Mourinho vs Rafa Benitez
The pair would begin their war of words in 2005 because of a controversial decision by the linesman during a Champions League semi-final tie between Liverpool and Chelsea, with Mourinho refusing to accept his team being knocked out. The two would continue the rivalry both in the Premier League and the Champions League and it would quickly turn personal. “If she takes care of her husband’s diet, she will not have any time to talk about me," Mourinho said of Benitez's wife, following comments that Rafa was called upon to 'clean up Mourinho's messes' at previous clubs.
