'Most important rivalry in the league' - Cruz Azul manager Nicolás Larcamón confident ahead of Clásico Joven against América

As the latest edition of the Clásico Joven approaches, Larcamón made it clear that facing América means more than just history and rivalry - it’s a game that continues to gain weight within Liga MX.

“In recent years, Cruz Azul vs América has undoubtedly become one of the most important games in Mexican football,” Larcamón said. “The northern clubs have set their own standard, and Toluca has also been consistent. But because of its history, this clásico is getting stronger. It might well become the most important rivalry in the league."

Despite the pressure surrounding such the high-stakes match, Larcamón insisted that his motivation doesn’t come from facing América.

“The motivation isn’t the opponent, it’s the badge and our people,” he said. “We focus on preparation, on arriving fresh and ready to perform at our best. That’s what drives us.”

Cruz Azul enter the match in solid form, showing consistency and balance throughout the tournament. However, Larcamón emphasized that the team’s ambitions go beyond records or statistics.

“Cruz Azul is a massive club, and we have to aim higher than just maintaining a streak,” he said.
